Did some wheeling the other weekend and heard a pretty loud pop/bang going over a feature.

Started to hear a rattle and Figured I hit my skid plate. I mistakenly assumed the rattle was from a missing front skid bolt and drove 5.5 hours home on the highway.

Replaced that skid bolt only to discover this…..

My biggest concern - do you guys think I did any major damage from the drive home ? I feel like an idiot but at the time I thought the rattle was 100% that front skid!!

My question is why the shock broke in the first place. How are the bump stops and do you need limit straps.

You're likely fine, the big thing is nothing was limiting axle travel so you could have potentially stretched brake lines, abs, or the parking cables.

I can break factory bilstiens off like that, but it takes a lot of force, you must have been going fairly hard!

ive wheeled much harder before with no issues, this was really surprising.

This was also my First time out on the trails since getting new tires and wheels put on my the shop, although I’m not ready to blame the tire shop for this.

Good point - I’ll check my bump stops. They’re stock bump stops on an upgraded dobinsons suspension kit.

I've had a broken shock on my 2nd gen. You're 100% fine. The leafs are what holds the truck up. If you actually take a shock, they are easily pushed down with fairly little weight.

I should be able to replace that shock with a stock TRD one without issues right ? ( Highway travel only until I can get another set of aftermarket’s)

You should do it in pairs.

Please, for the love of _____, don't try blaming the tire shop for this...

Right, but why even mention "I’m not ready to blame the tire shop for this", if you weren't thinking about it? :p

It’s hard to tell what happened to the shock in that picture. Post more, please.

4-Lo in 1st gear, fully stopped prior to approach and just crawled through it. Wish I had pics of the trail. I was taking it really easy (had 2 others plus a dog in the cab - so was keeping it tame)

Pulling it off this weekend I’ll update with better pics. The top bolt sheared off which caused it to disconnect from the upper housing (terminology is probably wrong, sorry)

Gonna throw on a set of stock shocks while I wait for replacements from dobinsons.
