I stole this photo from another thread because I don't have one available right now and highlighted it myself. I'm trying to figure out how urgent a problem this is... I just discovered it.

2002 Tacoma SR5, Access Cab, Manual Transmission. The highlighted hose is broken at the 'X' in the image. There's fluid all over the oil fill port - I can't tell what sort of fluid. I've had no issues with driving the vehicle as of yet, but recently got the power steering fixed. What's super jank is it looks like the hose was attempted to be "repaired" with camo duct tape - I'm uncertain how long it's been like this.

FSM's aren't the most helpful right now - they're kind of hard to navigate. Easiest would be a labelled image of the engine bay, but no luck in that department either. Anyone know what this hose connects, if it needs to be fixed ASAP, and what fluid is spraying over my engine compartment?

Thanks in advance for the knowledge.

    Tasteful modifications :)
Can’t really do a whole lot without pics from your engine bay or more info on the color of this liquid so fourth.

I'll get a photo, but the hose is the same - shouldn't matter if the pic is from my engine or another.

The fluid is black and sticky - extremely viscous and it's not flowing. But that describes a lot of used engine fluids... Based on where it's been deposited, it seems to have been coming from the driver side portion of the truncated hose.

that hose is for the Evap system. get a long hose to run across the engine bay and replace it. oil on the cap is likely engine oil from messy oil changes over the years and more than likely leaky valve cover gasket

that hose should have nothing in it. (unless fuel somehow got into the charcoal canister and has broken down the charcoal)

Ooooh, so is this this part of the line that backfills the tank with air as gas is used up? That would explain why it terminates behind the air filter. Should be easy enough to replace with the right hose length/diameter and band clamps.

The fluid is harder to explain, since it's also deposited on top of the cap.

Sorry for my ignorance. So many people here are such a wealth of knowledge.

I would just go ahead and replace all of the vacuum hoses, they're probably nearly toast anyway. I did one of the shop kits from siliconeintakes.com, so far so good.

That hose vents the gas fumes into the engine to be burned not like in the old days to the air

Just how long has that truck been sitting??

Quite possible that black your seeing is just old oil mixed with dirt then sitting

So. My hose was broke as well. Went to auto zone they don't have the correct diameter hose. Does anyone know where to get a hose with this diameter?

If anyone knows the measurements, I bet you could get an equivalent tube and clamps from ACE or any hardware store for cheaper. It just needs to tolerate extreme temps, which most tubing can do.

I bought 100' rolls of vacuum tubing from McMaster-Carr in every size I needed .

It is not a odd size I can`t see why it is so hard

Are you measuring where it is swelled from going over the nipple??

If need be put a piece of steel or copper tube in as a splice till you get the correct size.

I will go measure and update as soon as I put my feet on .

Yeah just being vacuum piping (Toyota name for it, not mine:D) size just needs to be close enough. Metric and SAE should have something close enough. It's just vacuum piping:rofl:
I like saying that for some reason :D
