I have lots of experience with jeeps and know all the ways to limp a broken front axle home (if there is no spare). I have very little Toyota experience with such things.

If you were to break a front CV axle on the trail, where does it normally break? Cleanly across the shaft? At the CV joint?

And what options do you have to limp it out if there is no spare? Like in a TJ, you can remove the inner axle and run it on the outer. Are there any work arounds for the Toyota axle?

    Thanks

I do in the jeep, but haven't got any for the truck yet. Where do you get spares cheap?

Is still like to know if there is a limp out option too.

Get a spare or two, you know, the ones with the life time warranties, then you can just keep replacing them indefinitely.

However, if you find you keep breaking cv joint, you need to get yourself a sold axle conversion, or go easier on the skinny pedal.

Most people don’t have much of an issue with cvs though, it’s really only if you’re locked up (a locker in front) and are doing some pretty tough rock crawling and a heavy footed.

I broke one CV in 8yrs and I drove it off the trail and back to camp. It snapped off right at the axle tube and the CV was flopping around. The wheel bearing is just like a Jeep, you either have to change the CV, or cut the shaft off the outer portion of the cv. The bearing will come apart without the hub nut and shaft in there and your wheel will come off.
