    Greetings fellow Taco Owners,

This isn't quite how I wanted my first post to go but wondering if anyone has ever had any issue with breaking a clip on the very bottom of their tailgate for the back up camera wiring harness? Long story short, I decided to detail my truck today since the weather is actually looking nice for the weekend and when I washed the tailgate, I heard a snap sound and noticed a small black piece on my rear bumper. After looking around, I found it to be the piece that holds the wiring harness for the backup camera and thought I got it back into place but I guess I pushed too hard and now its inside of the tailgate itself. I rode down to the dealership thinking it'd be a quick fix but the guy behind the parts counter grabbed his manager and it turns out that its actually one of the clips on the harness itself that Toyota doesn't sell individually. Finding newer tacos in junkyards isn't the easiest around here but wondering if anyone else has had this happen and if so, what their solution was? Just looking at the truck from behind, the wiring isn't hanging so I honestly dont think itll be an issue but the only thing is there is a hole there now (the easiest way to explain the location is if your tailgate is closed, place your hand underneath it just to the right of the center and you will feel the wires. Follow the wires back to where they lead to the tailgate and there should be a black piece there that is holding them into place. I really would like to get a factory clip but not to the point of trying to disassemble my tailgate to find where mine went to lol. Zipties could probably do the truck if it ever starts hanging (I assume this is how aftermarket ones are done anyway.) Just curious on this. If it matters, truck is a 2021 TRD Sport Double Cab 2WD. Looking forward to being a part of the community! I come from a Ecoboost F150 and honestly, the only thing I miss about that truck is the power. I love the size of this truck so much more and does everything I need it to do (not to mention have always been a fan of Toyota trucks and amazed at how well they hold up as well as resale value. Made more sense just to get it brand new after finding used ones that cost more than I paid for mine off the showroom floor...)

Weird. I’ve never heard of this happening. Send some pics of the tailgate

You're best bet is to just take the panel off of the tail gate and recover the plastic clip... You literally just remove the screws on the panel and it comes right off.

VicNic3. That link is dead, do you have a part number for that? I installed the OEM power lock for the tailgate on my 2018 SR5 tonight. Broke the dual retainer trying to get the truck side routed. It split in half at the fold.

edit: never mind, went through their site. $31 for the plastic clip plus $33 ground shipping. I’ll pass on a aftermarket wire clip that was half the cost of the full OEM power lock kit.
