Broken battery hold-down.

Just noticed my new-to-me 08 has a broken battery hold down; it really looks like it melted but regardless I need a new on.

Any suggestions on either OEM or aftermarket? Metal would be nice.

The clamp on my 2015 is metal. Works fine -- to the point where the CNC'd aluminum ones never quite made sense to me.

The ones before MY 2012 were plastic, I guess? Didn't know that. I jumped from Gen 1 to Gen 2.5.

I have an el-cheapo milled aluminum one of Amazon. Works well and was inexpensive, just had to grind it a bit to fit a 27F comfortably (but for the price I didn't care).

I second this as I’ve installed this as well, got the black hold down.

 

You'll want to address the cause of the melting. Was it from battery acid spilling out of the vents? Arcing with the battery terminal?

 

Found this thread as my stock one is crusty and rusted. It also doesn't properly fit my new AGM battery.

As I am mostly into function over form it doesn't bother me this has tool marks. At the price of $12, I went for it. Also some reviewers said the bolts weren't long enough to fit their Toyotas. Ad says 10", my stock are 10" so... we'll see.

Yeah, I wanted the black but forgot to check and ordered the blue. So I'm sure it will clash with the blue on the battery.

 

The 10" bolt version is what you want. One will be perfect length and one you can cut down to match. On my truck the stock ones were not the same length.

My main gripe with ALL of these aftermarket battery hold downs is that they all use SAE hardware rather than metric. There's not much that chaps my hide more than putting standard hardware on a vehicle with otherwise all metric. Also makes putting together a trail tool kit more difficult. Although not the most secure the Aronova one comes with wing nuts. I chose to use those rather than the nuts which would require an SAE wrench. So far they're holding tight.

 

So, it arrived! Funny, could see tool marks in the Amazon pic but there aren't any on the one I got. Looks quite nice really.

First mistake, I got the blue one, I wanted the black or silver but I forgot to change that. My bad.

Then I decided to follow the OEM style as they give you 2 wing nuts and 2 regular nuts. I put both regular nuts on the farside. That side takes a shorter bolt so after figgerin' I cut about 2" off of it.

Looking at the bar itself I think the design is funky looking. I don't like seeing the depression, so I installed the bar upside down. I think it looks better. Thinking this greatly reduces the surface are of the aluminum clamp on a plastic cased battery I cut a strip of filthy dirty gray vinyl diamond plate flooring I had laying around to act as a gasket. This caused me to use every inch of the retaining bolt with the wing nut. I think it will be good.

 

I just replaced my stock battery with a deka 24f and to my surprise bracket did not fit. Just want to see what options ppl are using

 

^Is the Deka battery too tall or too short?

 

A bit too tall but it's the correct size from stock 24F

 

I have the 27F Duracell, which like the Deka is an East Penn Manufacturing made battery. Even though it was a 27F for a 27F the standard battery hold down didn’t work. I went with this:

If I remember correctly, the Duracell battery was taller than the battery it replaced.

Picked up one of these in black. For the price you can't beat it. I'm going with a group 94R/H7. Same width and length as a 27F, just a tad shorter. Easier to find, and a little more power. They put them in the new Tundras.
