So I hadn't taken off the metal caps I had on my valve stems in awhile and went to check the tire pressure yesterday and the first one was stuck on. when I went to use a wrench to loosen it up the tip of the valve stem snapped off... now the valve stem in exposed. Im wondering now how expensive this is as I know there are 2 different kinds of TPMS sensors and not sure if toyota's are connected to the valve stems or am I able to disconnect and keep the same TPMS sensor. saving me from spending more $$$$ SMH... whats the best way to attach this with the least amount of headache ....

You'll be buying a new sensor. Paying for installation and programing.

It's why they come with plastic caps. Use them. Or expect more breakage in the future.

Unfortunately this isn't one you should just drive around with the light on until tires are needed. For obvious reasons it needs changing now.

well I plan on fixing it the right way and keeping the light off. the tire is still holding air fine.

Yes they do separate from the TPMS. It cost you about $3 for a valve stem plus the cost of dismounting and re mounting tire.

If you prefer to use metal caps use a little grease on the threads to keep the caps from seizing.

Photo of that? Pretty sure mine were one piece. But I have steel wheels. Maybe the alloys are different?

I see this all the time. Dissimilar metals show no mercy.
I can usually save the sensors as long as customers don't try to muck with it.
    Lesson learned. Leave things alone..

    Nope. All one piece bill.
You can separate them if you use a hammer...

Some yes you would need a hammer. Most now days have a stem that threads on or gets screwed like the image. I just had new tire put on and watched the tech remove stem and install the new ones.image.jpg

    That's not an OEM sensor.

FWIW, I bought a new sensor and fit kit from the dealer this week, OTD with taxes for $67 Canadian. Meaning you'd likely be under $50USD down there. Even with good discounts at the aftermarket parts stores here, dealer was far cheaper. Go figure.

I don't think that they do: ( at least the OEM ones do not ).

Ok, my final post on this subject.
If you have a rubber valve stem, IT'S NOT FACTORY !!!!
The op showed a metal TPMS sensor.
Making confusing posts does not help.
You have aftermarket sensors. You even quoted that most now days have a stem that threads on.
His sensor is not MOST. It's factory.
The first 3 posts should have been the total length of this thread.

Mine broke in the same way, replaced with a rubber stem TPMS and the tire place did it for 60 bucks I think.

Just a touch of anti-seize compound on the threads under the valve caps sounds like a good idea if you aren't using the plastic caps.

Do not replace that TPMS module, which may require unmounting the tire, rebalancing, and reprogramming at great cost.

There is a DIY product that will repair that stem inexpensively.

Heading to dealer Tuesday for 5K service on 3rd Gen TRD Pro, so may just leave damages wheel in the bed till then.
