Long story short I have the potential of moving to the UK with work, it sounds silly but one of my concerns is what to do with my tacoma. I just got it recently so I don't really want to sell it and definitely don't want it to just sit in the states for a few years while I'm overseas but not sure how it would work out bringing it over to the UK with me. I know there is a light conversion kit for around 100 bucks but just curious if anybody has taken their taco across the pond and how it worked out for them. Thanks!

Store it and get a bike for the UK. Their roads are super narrow and the fuel is insanely expensive.

Moved from the UK to Canada where I bought a Tacoma. Trust me, buy a smaller car over there. Petrol is stupid expensive, you have to pay an annual vehicle tax that is based on emissions, the roads are way narrower and parking spaces are smaller. I may get shit on here for saying this, but for the UK, a prius would rock, either that or an EV.

...^^^... I never lived in UK ... but I have lived in Canada, Finland, Germany, France & SE Asia on job before. Canada was the only country

    with WIDE roads.

From my past visits to UK, I would not want to drive a Tacoma on those skinny roads and petrol is :spending:very expensive there.

PS ... I am in Ho Chi Minh City (old Saigon), Vietnam now and I would NEVER, EVER drive a 4 wheeled vehicle in this city or in Bangkok ... NEVER.

I get crazy  o_O just riding in a taxi here.

I used to work in the UK. There’s no way in hell I would have a Tacoma in the UK.

Plus if you’re based out of England or Ireland you’re gonna be sitting in the wrong seat, will make passing more challenging.

Sell your truck now while resale is at a premium, storage does no good for a vehicle. (Invest the $ if you can ;) )

Purchases something local over there that makes sense: size, tax, fuel economy, support, etc and enjoy the experience.

Not sure where exactly you will be located, but if it's a major metro area like London consider using public transportation like the underground and rent a vehicle when you want to take trips out of the city. Also, remember that the rail system over there is much more extensive than ours, so you may find that you don't even need to rent a car to leave the city. I've driven a rental in the UK and I'm glad I had a smaller vehicle.

Buy a Hilux there and report back to us. So much easier than importing a vehicle. Gas is around $7.25 a US gallon, (so super expensive, unless you live in Vancouver, then it's only slightly more expensive ;)

Don't do it. Sell it now. Buy something else when (if) you come back.

It’s a utility vehicle. You’ll get over it. Plus, you’ll like a complete turd driving a pickup truck in England. Focus on finding a loving wife with a sexy British accent.

Was there more to the 'light conversion kit'? Or was that just random?

I was first stationed in England (RAF Whethersfield) on Feb 4, 1989...I did not take a vehicle with me.

The base was considered small compared to RAF Mildenhall/Lakenheath which is where most of the American Spec cars roamed.

I bought a right-hand drive (Ford Escort) 5-speed and it worked great on those small roads.

We had American Trucks in our Squadron that we used to pick up from RAF Alconbury since we were a satellite base.

American vehicles took up half the smaller roads and it was always challenging with oncoming traffic.

You can take it over there but as has been said, your steering wheel is on the wrong side for host country that drives on the other side.

I took my 2003 Honda Pilot to Germany and there was plenty more room there.

My daughter watches videos like this and loves how transportation is done in Europe as opposed to the US.

Couple of my homies have taken their trucks across the pond(OCONUS). I said take it, because if you want you’re gonna be just fine(people from there come over and drive our rentals with no issues). If you’re not crazy invested on the truck, this is a good opportunity for you to get rid of the truck, get a bicycle(assuming you are single). save a bunch of money, come back and get a 4th gen. Or get a hilux over there and bring it over :fistbump:
