My Softopper was just sorta burgled.

It looks like they know how they work. They peeked in the front left corner as just the top bit was left undone, then pushed in the top velcro and unzipped the rear sides.

Zero damage or stuff stolen other than cutting the 3rd brake light pigtail and taking a $7 InstaCrate.

They rifled through my Plano storage trunk and took nothing. My wool blanket and camp chairs were out and stuff was shuffled around. The funny part is that they cut the extra length off of the ratchet strap (still perfectly useable) and left a crows foot behind. WTF!? Hahaha!

There is a bunch of good recovery gear, chocks, and ratchet straps in there along with my inflator / deflator hoses.

Seriously. A lot more homeless folks around that area than I remember.

Happy to have gotten away mostly unscathed.

    Hahaha!

    I do apologize that I didn't.

I was hoping to even get the body mounts in this weekend, but not gonna happen.

Aha, you were hit by the famous Crow Foot Burglar! That's his trademark I hear.

    For real?

I am completely laughing about the whole thing since it was practically painless. But, the crows foot had me thinking that they were looking to crack into hard shells.

Yeah. But then, it is said that crims aren't all that bright to start with.

Hard top really looks like the right way to go when you hear stories like this. Sorry you had to deal with this Tony.

i honestly try to leave mine empty when i'm not going somewhere where i need my gear. And just leave the back window rolled up so they can "look"

    Thanks!

I have seen many hard shells with broken windows. My original Plan B was a contractor shell with side windoors. The price shock (same as any other 3rd Gen shell) put me off. I was talking about that with my wife. Given the left behind crows foot and that I am guessing that they were pilfering tools, it might have been an even worse situation with broken locks and such?

In my mind, there are preventable measures, but no real security. If a crim wants in, there is always a way.

They improved my ratchet strap length:
    PXL_20220904_233220998.NIGHT.jpg

That crows foot, if not stolen, likely cost more than the InstaCrate that they took. It was hanging out under the blue bungee:
    PXL_20220904_211345107.NIGHT.jpg

Thankfully, the only real damage. I already had spare materials at home to make another 3rd brake light:
    PXL_20220904_233237306.NIGHT.jpg

    Here are the real kickers:

-- I'm thankful that my fridge and / or boat were not in the bed. They'd shirley been gone.
-- They didn't try busting into my relatively empty, but cam-lock-modded cubbies.
-- Also, my computer, drone, compressor, and action cam were in the cab but hidden.

I'm sorta looking on the bright side of this one and will take better precautions next time. Hell, in June, I spent a night along the Columbia all too close to Portlandia. You know, the nicer side in Vancouver.:rofl: For that trip, I took everything out of the bed, including the Softopper. I would not have expected this situation in Bremerton. Kind of a bummer as it is (was?) as nicer area. So, the thread to caution others.

The amount the tweaker-related property crime in my lovely home state has gone up exponentially the past few years is so sad to watch.

You said it. Back home sounds like a different world from when I grew up there

Close friend of mine moved out of the city just north of Seattle and was burgled the day they closed on the house. Moved half their stuff in that day, came back the next day to see the place ransacked. All their camping gear was gone. Luckily most of the important stuff hadn’t been moved yet. Their realtors had left them a frozen pizza and a bottle of wine in the fridge. Fuckers had the gall to fire up the oven and have a nice dinner.

    :annoyed:

Have you ever considered a decked system? I've thought of it but never pulled the trigger

Never. To much weight for too little storage.
