I have a transfer case leak and would like to either replace the breathers or clean them to see if this helps. I'm pretty sure I have a R150F transmission and from my research it seems that the T-case vents into the transmission via a tube and there is at least one transmission breather near the shifter.

Does this sound right for the R150F for a *1996* model? Thanks.

IIRC, my '97 V6 4x4 Taco has 2 vents up on top of the R150F transmission located under the shifter boot. And yes, they do get a bit clogged up and need to be cleaned out occasionally. They are of the same design as the screw-in OEM breather vents on the front and rear axle. I extended both of those because of the deep mud/high water I normally off road in.

OK great thank you. I've heard these breathers can be tough to remove, which seems kinda strange as they have a nut fitting and are threaded. Did you clean these breathers or remove them? If you cleaned them, how exactly?

I took both breather vents apart and cleaned them only because I wanted to get the truck reassembled that day. A hurricane was approaching so I wanted the TACO up and ready to clear roads of trees. It was easy. Was actually changing the OEM shifter parts out with new Marlin parts: NEW: Heavy Duty Seat & Socket COMBO | Marlin Crawler, Inc. Suggest you do the same while you have the shifter boot removed if you have not already done so. Those Marlin shifter parts work great! But as correctly stated above, just buy new breather vents. Looks like the front breathers are plugs, whereas the rear diff breather is screw in.
