I, being a noob, put wrong power steering fluid in the other day which I thought was the cause of my super stiff steering that began happening right after. I took to dealer to have them flush the system, and they noticed the pump had failed as well. Just picked up and my steering is still pretty stiff, definitely not as bad as before, but still stiffer than it should be. Is there a break in period for new fluid and pump? Or could there be another issues such as intermediate steering shaft?

Curious as well. I have a hard time seeing the "wrong" fluid ruining the pump unless it was 140w or similar.

I put just regular steering fluid in, not ATF. My steering seems to be back to normal now after driving it a while today. Must have just had to work itself in.

Is the pump still growling a little? It may just have an air pocket.

I don't think that was the cause of the pump failing, I think it just failed. But when I noticed the stiffness, I checked power steering fluid level and it was low so I topped off with regular power steering fluid, not ATF like it calls for. I obviously can't read.

eh you probably were fine, its a pretty simple hydraulic system and could probably run off vegetable oil haha.

Glad things are better now though.
