So I just bought this brand new 2023 Tacoma 4x4 v6 and only have 200 miles on it. What are you guys doing in regards to break in oil changes? I wanna keep this truck 20 plus years. Is 1000 mile break in oil change overkill? Can’t decide on oil brand either. Thinking of running the amsoil OE . Thanks guys!

I did oil at 1500, 6000, 10500 along with tire rotations on my 22 OR. Will do it every 5k from now on.

I wouldn't call it overkill, but certainly diligent. I'd say the vast majority of people run the break in oil until the actual interval for a change is up. But 1,000 miles seems like a great starting point to me

I wouldn't fuss much over what type of oil though, generic wal mart super tech is perfectly good and even SN PLUS rated depending on what type you buy. Any quality oil will do just fine, Toyotas really aren't fussy about brand. Just stick to 5k or less intervals, and it'll likely run fine for hundreds of thousands of miles with whatever oil you put it in it. Could be cheap or expensive, as long it's changed regularly these things don't really seem to care

Do your first oil change at 5k miles, and 10k afterwards if you consider yourself a normal driver. Mobil 1 extended performance 0w20 is as good as you'll ever need. My last sr5 tundra was still running great at nearly 300k miles using mobil1.

Mobil 1 full-synthetic motor oil 0W-20 every 5,000 miles or once a year if driven less than 5,000 miles in a year. i like to change the oil right away after buying it and then go every 5,000 miles...

22’ V6 built in Baja Cali Mexico.

Do not wait till 5k. When I changed mine at 2k it had gasket material in the filter and metal glitter in the oil (much more in the oil).
Change it as soon as you can after the break in period. I would say 2k miles is perfect. Even if you just change the oil, the filter could probably go till 5k. I changed both first time.
Following with a change at 5k and 8k. So 2k, 3k, 3k, intervals. The truck runs the exact same since I bought it at the lot. Pennzoil 0w20 full synthetic with Toyota filters.

    1,5,10,15,20k for me so far.
Any known brand 0W-20 will work. I personally stick with the oem filter and oil. The price went down and I was out the door for $47.

I think with our Baja built tacomas are engines come from the Georgetown Kentucky engine plant and the guys with the guantjuo built trucks get their engines from the Alabama plant. Good to know though thanks!

Once you do an oil change in this bad boy a few times it starts to become more enjoyable. Removing the skid plate is the hardest part.

I have four car ramps that I use when I change my oil. I just drove all four tires up on the ramp and I can get to the skid plate removal quick and easy.
I also bought the Motivx Oil change kit and it’s awesome.

Its a metal tool socket kinda looking thing that goes onto the filter versus using a filter wrench. Makes it very easy

6, 10, 20, 30etc… seems like a waste of oil to double up on the changes but whatever makes you feel good.

I changed my oil at 1000 and then 5000 miles. Also, at the first oil change I installed a Baxter spin on oil filter adapter so I would never have to deal with the messy cartridge filter.

Call me crazy…..but new vehicles get oil changes at 500, 1500 then every 3-5k.

The FJ has 150k, doesn’t use a drop. That 10k oil change statement is a MAXIMUM, not a standard practice. Read the owners manual recommendations

I did my first oil change at 1450 miles. There was a little break in glitter in the oil filter. I used Mobile 1 0W-20 extended performance oil and a Mobile 1 filter.
Moving forward, I intend to change the oil at 5000 mile intervals.
Changing oil more often than the recommended 10000 mile intervals may seem like a waste to some. I think its a good practice/cheap insurance.
