My 2012 Taco Access has started to make a clicking noise when I apply the brakes. Everything 'feels fine' when stopping, any ideas?

Is it after changing directions or all the time?

    How many miles on truck?

An audible click can be heard sometimes when changing directions and then stopping,
think in reverse and you stop before going forward. It's the brake pads shifting in the
    caliper. Usually normal...

I hear the same on my 2013. One click after the initial application of the brakes. Brakes seem to work fine.

The "click" is just the brake pads shifting after sitting for so long. completely normal.

My 2009 does this upon initial pressing after going forward or reverse. I can simulate this over and over in my driveway. The sound is a loud mechanical click or more like a clank. However the brakes work absolutely great on this vehicle.

you can fix that relatively easily. You need to buy some Syl-glide or other brake approved silicone lubricant. Jack truck up and take off front wheels. Pull the two pins on the brake caliper and sand/wire brush or replace them its like $5 for the items each side, lube up and reinstall and the sound will go away. See pic of offending item. There is a cotter pin that locks this pin on the inside that needs to be removed, but pulling it out and reinserting it is easy and wont hurt anything else.

Appreciate the tip. I think there are several reasons you can get brake clicking. I had 2.

I lubed my slide pins in it stopped the smaller clicking noise. On further inspection I did see a slight movement of the rotor on the hub studs. I get a noise from this only when changing directions, forward to reverse or vice versa, on the first brake only. I think the louder clank is coming from this slight rotor movement.
The rotors are otherwise good. However I suspect this would improve when I ultimately change my rotors out.

OP start paying attention to when it happens and I bet you'll notice it's usually in parking lots of driveways where you have recently changed from forward to reverse or vice versa. As many people have said it's totally normal and is just the pads shifting around in the calipers.

My oem pads started doing this just as described above at maybe 20 k or so. I lived with it until about 50k and thinking they were due for replacement I installed new oem pads. Not a sound since and at 61k. The original pads still had lots of life left in them by the way. If you have aftermarket pads now, get oem from the dealer, install and enjoy quiet and dustless braking.

Just to verify the fix, my clicking sound went away when I reapplied ceramic lube to the back of the brake pads today. Been bugging me for the past few months. I had already checked torque on calipers, torque on ucas and lcas, and lubed slide pins. Good luck all.
