Hi all, I have a 1996 2.4L Tacoma, and recently the dashboard warning light for the brakes has begun to stay on all the time, even after I release the parking brake. Brake fluid level is full, and I've had no issues with brake feel while driving. Any suggestions for how to diagnose what's going on?

My initial thought is that the parking brake may need to be tightened? Or could it be a faulty sensor for the light?

    Thanks and be well!

This exact problem happened to me, I was advised to top off the brake fluid reservoir juuuuust a little bit more and that fixed the issue. Good luck!

If the fluid is at the proper level and the ebrake releases ok, its likely the switch that the ebrake activates is either failed or so dirty it is 'stuck' in the on position

I had the same issue, the mechanism under the truck by the drive side frame rail can stick and cause the light to stay on even if the brake isn't engaged anymore

Me too, I thought it had plenty, filled it nearly to top and light went out...

Thanks all. Tried just topping off the fluid, but the pesky light stays on. So next I'll have to figure out whether it's the switch/mechanism—sounds like it's near the drive side frame rail...

Thanks all. I cleaned the switch under the dash and lubricated the cable, brake light now turns off :)
