    Hey folks,

I am getting a brief but obnoxiously loud squeak from my front driver side brakes right before I come to a complete stop when braking lightly. Like when stuck in traffic for instance.

If I let off the brakes, roll a bit then re apply gently, i can get the squeak again. When it squeaks, it is roughly 1 to 2 seconds right before the brakes grab for complete stop.

If I brake hard, no noise. Braking performance is otherwise fine and noise free.

I try to be easy on my brakes and I am rarely in heavy traffic.

It has been doing this for a while and I am now noticing it more since the weather is starting to warm up and I often open the window. I have roughly 45K on my 20 TRD Off Road 4X4.

Could it be my pads already? And/or rotors? Maybe need a good cleaning?

    Any ideas?

    Oh look, another mod....

This sounds like the pads on your drivers side brake has worn un-evenly. Clean them and visually inspect the pads for wear.

    Stock-ish
Pads are probably glazed/gunk built up between the little slots in the pads. That, or yeah could be worn down to the sqeakers already.

    All the things!
I agree with the others, inspect the brake pads. It's a quick and easy job to pull them (I just replaced my pads yesterday). A couple ideas to try:

    • Apply brake grease to the back of the pads and the shims
    • Try bedding the brakes. Just look online for the procedure. Basically, just make several 60 to 10 MPH aggressive stops in a row. Don't come to a complete stop.

Thank you all! I will try the 10 hard brakes from 60 - 5 MPH. If there is any improvement, great! If not, I will take them apart and see what is going on this weekend.

Unfortunately, no it didn't work for me. I took them apart to have a look and give them a cleaning. Everything looks good to me. The pads have decent life left and the rotors look fine. Yet they still do the squeak at low speed/coming to a stop. I have to go in for state inspection this month. I will have them see what's going on in there.

I have a feeling I may just have to deal with it until it is time to replace the pads and/or rotors.

Did you find anything out after you took your truck in? My truck does the same thing. It drives me crazy.

Get some disc brake grease spray. Give the pad ears a squirt. If that does not work you may need to disassemble to clean and get the pad/piston area as well. I have done this for years on various cars successfully.

Mine does this sometimes. But I also know my rotors are warped lol.
