Has anyone experience what i call 'Brake slap" when applying brakes upon 1st moving forward, or, in reverse, and apply brakes, hear a noticable "CLACK" noise from brakes...
is this due to sliding calipers??

The pins that hold the pads to the calipers are probably dry. You can grease them and the noise should go away. I did that, but eventually they started doing it again most likely because the grease was eventually worn or washed away.

Dude I have this and I hate it so much. Happens when I switch direction and is pretty loud. Kind of embarrassing. Hopefully syswalla is correct about the dry pins. I’ll try that after the rain dies down around here.

Yes. It is the pads shifting in the caliper and there isn't much that you can do about it. If they were tight, they would drag on the rotors after you left off of the brake pedal.

This is an easy fix....Install 2 sets of retainer clips on each side (top and bottom) your problem will be gone instantly. It's the same clip just turn it upside down and install. At least on 2nd gens anyway.

Mine does this all the time. Everytime I leave my driveway. I back down the driveway, which biases the pads to the rear, and the first time I apply the brakes in the forward direction “slap….slap”. Super loud and annoying. Toyota says this is normal.

That is for inboard / outboard rattling. Not the forward / rearward shift and noise, right?

This will happen as your brake pads wear. I installed new pads and rotors and so far the noise is gone.

I think it has worked for some and not others.....it's inexpensive and easy to do for possible elimination of the noise. It worked for me.

Mine does it too, especially noticeable by a cement wall, etc.
Fits right in with the diesel engine sound of the injectors, fuel pump, vac pump -- or what ever the heck makes it sound that way...
It hasn't missed a beat so I don't worry about it.

Does it kind of sound like a bad CV Axle pop? Trying to determine if what I’m hearing is brake slap. Drives me nuts!

I had a noticeable clink when applying the brakes...turns out the person who did my alignment a year and a half ago didn't tighten one of the lower control arm bolts so it was moving, took it a year and a half to work itself loose, all the other bolts were good and tight though...my steering wheel would turn when applying the brakes too. it didn't make any noise when I'd jump up and down on the side step or bounced the front end, had the truck raised up and it didn't wiggle when I pushed/pulled on the top/bottom or sides of the tire either...just when applying the brakes and only when moving forward

most likely it's actually what others have recommended, but this is something that I literally just figured out and fixed so fresh on my mind. just something to check too. oh and our calipers don't slide at all, only the pistons move in and out (pushing the pads in, those clips help keep the pads off the rotor when brakes aren't applied) you can grease the pins too (just a coating, nothing excessive), you can also put a very small amount on the flat surface of the caliper the pads sit on, just make sure to not get any ON the pad or rotor, obviously. or just take the pads out and spray the hell out of the rotor with brake cleaner, scrub them really well, some dust could be preventing the pads from sliding easily

It’s just one loud “clack” as the pads slap back into place. It does not sound like a blown CV to me.
