2010 Pre-runner Crew cab. New rotors and pads about a year ago. Brakes were smooth before I had Americas tire rebalance and rotate my tires, then immediately leaving their parking lot I felt a shudder/vibration only when braking above 50mph and I can feel the pulsating grab any mph below that.

I have read about over tightening lugs causing this but also just read the Stop Tech article about how warped rotors are a myth...

Has anyone else experienced this sudden shudder? And if so, will I be looking at new rotors or will a re-torque due the job? Thanks for the info!

Maybe they knocked off a wheel weight on accident?

I bet the wheel is not seated correctly or balance is off(some balance issues are more prevalent under braking). Take it back and tell them to fix it.

i'd put my money on either a wheel not seated or more than likely a warped brake rotor due to over tightening

you do realize the stop tech article specifically states that when all bolts are tightened correctly in the correct
order and correct torque they have not seen a rotor warp

"With one qualifier, presuming that the hub and wheel flange are flat and in good condition and that the wheel bolts or hat mounting hardware is in good condition, installed correctly and tightened uniformly and in the correct order to the recommended torque specification, in more than 40 years of professional racing, including the Shelby/Ford GT 40s – one of the most intense brake development program in history - I have never seen a warped brake disc."

YES if some hambone power-shoveled on the lug nuts with a Harbor-freight throw away jackhammer you bet your ass rotors can have
some sub-mm warp and that translates into a pulse

it's likely in need of dropping all 4 wheels and reinstalling them correctly at 80ft lbs on the lug nuts

Probably an unbalanced wheel. I recently had my tires rotated and the tech notified me that the tires he put up front were out of balance. I have very similar brake pulsing/vibrating issues now.

Just a bunch of old crap
Tires wear differently. It's possible that one of the rear tires had uneven wear from before, and now it's affecting the front end. Properly torqued lug nuts could play into it, too.

Why was it in need of a balance? Just curious. I always ask this because if there is a defect spotted, the best balance in the world may not correct it an now you have created a problem.

If it In fact instantaneously happened after the rot and b, I would go with wheel seat/over torque. But a tire that was out back that has very high road force could "talk" more when the weight is transferred to the front under heavy braking. Hth.

Thanks everyone. The tires were rebalanced and are smooth when driving, I'm only having issue when applying the brakes. Ill pull the wheels off and confirm a good seat and torque and see if that resolves the problem.
