Getting ready to replace my rotors and pads up front, I tow a 3,500lb camper. Any recommendations?

My truck is a 2002, 4x4, manual piece of awesomeness.

    Are they currently wore out?

I'd be looking really hard at the rear brakes. It's been my experience that they're the most neglected and are usually out of adjustment.

Search for the tundra brake upgrade. You can fit the tundra's larger calipers and rotors. I plan on doing it soon.

Also while checking the rear brakes make sure the proportioning vavle is adjusted correctly, especially if your rear suspension has been lifted or modified for heavy loads.

If you have trailer brakes, that are property set up, it won't matter all that much as long as the brakes you have on the truck aren't worn out. At 3500# I certainly hope you have brakes back there...

Tundra brakes are cool when you are running bigger/heavier tires and need the extra stopping power. For a trailer with brakes, IMO it's not all that necessary. Just make sure your brakes are in good working order, and maybe get some higher performance/friction pads.

If you don't have brakes on your trailer, get them! Even tundra brakes would struggle to stop an extra 3500#...

I tow a ~2500# trailer, and I'm planning to install brakes on it. My stock brakes (both the 04 Taco and the 17 4Runner I have) did just fine, but I wanted extra control for the hills (hence the trailer brakes).

You NEED to do the tundra brake upgrade. I also HIGHLY recommend the lc engineering steel braided brake lines and brakeperformance.com cross drilled and slotted rotors with a ceramic pad. JUST AMAZING UPGRADE. I have no abs and 37" tires and 2000lbs over stock weight on board all the time . This upgrade is A MUST DO!!

Thanks for all the replies and useful info!

Yes, I have properly setup my trailer brakes, I wired in and use the Tekonsha P-3 controller. My trailer brakes are dialed in and work great! Makes such a difference (oh, and in most states are required over 1500lb).

But yeah, my truck's brakes are in need of some love...getting close to wear warnings.

    Tundra big brake or GTFO!
I went with 2002 tundra after market rotors, rebuilt Wagner calipers and ACDelco ceramic pads. Nothing fancy and more brake then you'll ever need. 2 hunting 4x4 quads a trailer and gear is no problem going down a 7% grade.

There used to be some rear disk conversion kits available. I read at the time, that they were great for trailers. They put the stopping power at the rear wheels where the trailer weight is.

I was at my local Toyota dealer and they had some 18" take offs from a new vehicle that was sold with some aftermarket lif/wheels/tires. $900 for 4 brand new 6 lug 18" factory wheels/tires. My parts guy said there is some wiggle room in the price... If I had seen this 2 months ago I would have borrowed one to see if it fits and if it did I would have gone with the big brakes.

The safest solution is electric brakes on the trailer where the brakes pull from the rear as not putting all the load on the front brakes without electric brakes. With a controller you have control over the brakes if more braking power is needed
Green stuff 7000 series are fantastic and get drilled and slotted rotors,
But the best you can do is have trailer with electric brakes, that will solve all you brake issues with a trailer, I have a double axel with electric brakes and have no issues with braking,
