    Hi, 21 off road.
Reading the maintanence section of my manual it says I need to replace the brake pump at 60,000 miles!! WTF is up with that and why exactly do I have to do that?

Posting a screenshot of this might help us understand as this does not sound correct?

Don't fix it if it ain't broke

Although since you're an OR with ATRAC, your brake system is a tad more complicated than the rest of us peasants

I went and looked because it didn't seem right. Oddly enough its in there (I found at 120K though) but it doesn't apply to the OR/PRO. They're saying to replace the vacuum pump for the booster. I know there was a TSB for them but seems crazy to replace it. I agree on the ain't broke part...

Vacuum Pump for Brake Booster (2GR-FKS engine only) Replace at specified intervals. A qualified technician should perform this operation.

Well, that table flipped in no time.

But, I believe that the limited recall was for some of the vacuum boosted master cylinders, not the pump?

Even more interestingly, it is not there for my 2017, which I would consider normal / typical:

My many apologies. I was wrong. It is required at 120,000 and for 2GR-FKS engines

Well it is there in my scheduled maint book for a 2021 TRD OffRoad and I have that engine. Sounds friggin nuts to me.
States if equipped. How would I determine if it has that?

    No worries!

@RX1cobra confirmed also. That is a crazy requirement.

Since the warranty on that part should be up by then, I would say to pay attention to the condition. A friend was struggling with the brakes on his Bronco, mainly weak stops. We replaces just about everything without much help. In the end, the diaphragm in his vacuum booster failed also. After replacing it, he was surprised to find that the braking was worse. Without anyone's knowledge, the manufacture changed the vacuum spec from a normal-ish 13psi (I think?) to 22psi. There was no way for his intake to pull that much vacuum. As there was no other appropriate replacement, he went with hydra-boost brakes that are now better than ever.

So, all that I am saying is that I would be paying attention to braking effort then, useless the pump is cheap as chips.

I thought it was for vacuum pump for the booster making a funny noise. But I'm not 100% on that and too lazy to go find it. Wonder if after the bad run Toyota added that to cover their asses.

Edit - it was for the pump. This appears to be 100% CYA by Toyota.

You don't have it. The brake booster on OR/Pro models are hydraulically boosted. The rest of the lineup is vacuum assist.

Another reason the OR is better than the Sport.

    Thanks for the correction!

    Looks pretty simple to replace.

But, crickey. Those prices are insane.

So, are the hydro boosted powered off the power steering pump? I had a 95 chevy that the power steering did both jobs. I suspect mine may be electric. When pushing the brake in the morning while starting I can both feel and hear something going on as I press the pedal.

Ebay rating means very little. Different seller from 2 years ago.

The reason it's cheaper is because Toyota marks up everything about 300%.

It has its own small motor, pump and accumulator. My Mustang has a system like your Chevy though. Power steering pump also boosts the brakes.
Stole this pic from another thread but you can see the system in it.

If you think counterfeit parts aren't an issue on Fleabay, I've got a bridge to sell you.

The fact the "Made in:" sticker on the box is blank is one warning sign. That it looks to be packaged in a plain brown cardboard box is another. Toyota/Lexus use either the red/white striped boxes or the brown with black stripes. I'm also not aware that Toyota uses Mexican suppliers for engine parts. Pretty sure all their engines are still made in Japan, though of course the supply chain is absurdly complicated, so who knows.

That combined with Ebay's history of not knowing (or caring) if the parts sold on their site are genuine, it's enough for me to be skeptical.

Ebay's "authenticity guarantee" is notably absent on car parts.

I know all about Ebay since I joined in 1997. Bottom line is you don't fuk about what your stating, until you buy it and see.

You make a post like your some sort of authority, when you have no proof.

If your trying to look smart, it's not working.

JFC dude, I never said anything with certainty or claimed to have "proof". All I said is that I'm skeptical and provided reasons for my skepticism. Reasons that have been discussed ad nauseam on plenty of other sites.

If you have to wait until after you've bought something to have any confidence that it's genuine, that's probably a bad sign, and not a chance I'm willing to take with my money.

But sure, go ahead and buy the part and see for yourself.
