    Hey TW,

    I'm experiencing a metal "clunk" or "click" noise when I disengage the brake pedal. It sounds like it's coming from inside the cab and I hear the noise everytime I disengage the brake and the pedal comes to it's resting position.

    This started happening after I had to slam on the break pedal to avoid a collision. I've tried googling around and searching on this forum, but no luck and was wondering if anyone had ideas on how to fix to remove the noise?

    Check your rear axle U-bolts, loose U-bolts are a common cause of clicks associated with braking.

    Thanks for the info, but listening more I realized where the noise is coming from. It’s part of the break pedal assembly.image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

    Yes. I torqued mine to 80 ft. lbs. based on the size of the bolts.

    @Jorrail
    I have the exact same issue, and it was after the same circumstances (ABS kicked on, I had to press on the brake pedal with ALOT of force to stop my truck). When I was looking at the pedal assembly, it looked like the bushings at the main pivot point are/were cracked, allowing slop in the brake pedal, causing that "clicking" sound.

    But it has either gone away, or I don't hear it anymore, because I haven't heard that noise in a couple years.

    Thanks for the info. I've been trying to google and search this forum to identify exactly where you are talking about. Do you have pics or could you use the ones I've provided indicating where?

    If you don't have the service manual, here is a link to it (it has the break down of the brake pedal assembly):

    The spot where my brake pedal was clicking was from the main brake pedal pivot, the bushing looked like it developed some play when I pressed really hard on the pedal. If you want, I can take a picture of my truck tomorrow, to help you show where I am talking about.

    Hope this helps. There's a number of Taco that has a defective hole where the spring is attached on the brake pedal. The spring is also attached on the fire wall. It's an easy fix take it to the stealership have them replace the brake pedal assembly especially if your is still on the warranty. It's just a plug and play.

    Check the mounting position of the little brake light switch too. Ive seen people hit them with their boot in a panic stop situation and bend the bracket out of place or dislodge the switch

    Hello @Jorrail , I am having the exact same issue with my 07 Tacoma. I have looked everywhere to find a solution to this problem, so far no luck. However, I did find a temporary "fix" for the clicking noise coming from the Brake Pedal Support Assembly. I ended up putting a piece of peel n stick felt strip on the end of the black bolt that supports the brake assembly, and annoyingly, makes contact with the brake hammer piece every time I release the brake pedal.

    It surprisingly works really well to cut back on the noise! Though its not a permeant fix, it should help you get by until a solution is found for this problem.

    I have the same issue but in a 2017. I'm wondering if the issue with brake pedal assembly is multigenerational? I'm going to the "stealership" tomorrow. I hope it's covered under warranty! Thanks for the info!

    Just got back from the dealer. Same pedal issue mentioned above. Thanks for saving me a ton of time waiting for them to "diagnose" the issue. Best of all, still under warranty.
