Brake lights not working

Hey any tips on if my running lights/reverse/turn signals all work. But my brake lights don’t. The third brake light works. Checked all the fuses and replaced the “stop” fuse and thinking It might be the “stop relay” but not sure since the 3rd brake light works. Have an appointment the 4th but figured y’all have good input here. Thanks.

Also I’m not sure if this is related because I don’t know when they went out but I was turning right the other day my blinker started the hyper flash. Might not be related but additional info.

 

Have you check the bulbs to see if they're still good?
Do your rear signal lights work? Probably not if they're hyper-flashing.
If the brake lights are out on both sides AND if both left & right signals hyper-flash AND if neither rear signal light will illuminate, I'd guess that something happened to the rear wiring harness.

 

Have to ask the obvious question…have you checked the bulbs?

 

I would check both rear stop bulbs (there's a reason they sell bulbs in pairs).

 

Are you running LEDs anywhere?

Also....check for rodent damage

 

Should have added that I replaced the bulbs first. That was my first thought.

 

When they first went out I was running OG meso led tails. I replaced with my original tails and same issue. I replaced the bulbs. Fuse for “stop” still nothing. I got under the bed near the trailer connection and followed the wires best I could and they all seem fine.

 

I do have led Alpharex headlights. I’m kinda dumb when It comes to electrical so not sure if that could be a problem.

 

both signals work. No hyper flash. That only happened once and that was when I had the meso tails in. Now that I replaced with my original tails both signals work. And running lights work. It’s just the brake.

 

LED lighting can do some wonky things

 

Do yo have a multimeter and know how to use it?
With an assistant pressing the brake pedal, verify that there is juice to the bulb holder at the taillight assembly since you replaced the fuse and the 3rd Brake functions.

 

Was a resolution ever found to this?

 

Check the Brake Light Switch yet?

 

Yes
We checked:
Brake switch
Brake relay
Both bulbs
Both connectors

The only time we got it to light up is pushing power thru the cabin fuse.

Seems to be some sort of disconnect between engin fuse box and the cabin fuse box on just the brake lights. The 'third' breaklight works

 

I’m also having a similar issue with the Meso Morimoto led tail lights. I got the v1 I believe when Meso dropped those. No issues at all until the last couple days. Third brake light and left tail work fine and only the right doesn’t turn on when depressing the brake pedal. But the blinker still works fine on the right side, when I turn my headlights on it still lights up just fine, the lights themselves all light up when hitting my lock/unlock on my fob. But that damn right side just won’t light up when pressing the brake pedal. No hyperflash or anything else. I haven’t had time to go through it all myself just yet, but it seems like a ground issue or maybe something with the pedal switch or relay? Hoping someone finds an answer so I don’t have to go poking around in the AZ heat right now

 

For you, it's the taillight assembly. Need new one.
For confirmation, remove both and connect for testing the right to the left...

 

You think? I mean all the lights work fine, just the right tail doesn’t light up only specifically when I’m braking. The bulbs that should be lighting up when braking still light up under any other condition where they normally would be. Initially I just assumed there was a disconnect between some wire at the brake pedal to some wire at the right tail since the light itself still has no trouble turning on in any section.

I’m probably going to take this evening to put my stock ones back in and see if the issue persists with those

 

It's confusing to read that the issue is upstream when one side works fine. It's just a simple test. Remove the "affected" assembly and connect it to opposite side and test. Go from there.

 

Update on my issue:

These are the tail lights I have the issue with currently:

So I mentioned that every part of the right tail light is lighting up just fine. But when pressing down the brake pedal, only the right tail does not light up. My left and 3rd brake lights function correctly when pressing the brakes. I have no hyperflashing issues either(I know this was a common issue from the MESO thread about these tail lights). This is a new issue as the lights have worked flawlessly for me since MESO first released them around mid-September 2021.

I swapped my stocks back in today and they functioned as they should when pressing the brakes. So I know it isn't a fuse or ground or something in my truck's wiring since the lights all work now with the stocks re-installed.

Back to re-connecting the MESO tails. Issue still persists with all lights functioning as they should when headlights/turn signal/reverse. But when braking, the right tail still does not light up like the left and 3rd lights do.

I narrowed it down to that middle connector on the back of the right tail light where the "STOP & TAIL" harness connects from that pic a few messages up. I verified that was the source of whatever my issue is by plugging in just my stock tail light again(this time without that middle harness connected) and depressing the brake pedal. The stock light didn't light up, just as I expected it not to. Plugged that middle harness back into the stock light and voila, the stock tail lights up when pressing the brake again.

So now I'm fairly certain it is strictly something in-line with that part, either the middle harness coming from the truck(unlikely since it does light up the stock tail light), or the single red wire that runs from the MESO light to the stock truck-side middle harness.

My next step will be to attempt to pull all that crap out and see what's happening inside that middle port. I did tug on the red wire a small bit to see if there was a tangible disconnect, but nothing from what I could tell. I believe my issue is somewhere inside with whatever that red wire is going to.

Still hoping anyone can give me some direction or advice!!
