I was hoping for a little help and maybe some thoughts regarding the brake light on the dash. Here's an abbreviated version of my issue.

Probably sometime last summer, had the truck (03 double cab 4wd) parked on a sloped driveway. Don't remember exactly why, but I used the parking brake. Later drove away after disengaging the parking brake, but the brake dash light lit up. I figured something got stuck on the parking brake, so I engaged and disengaged it a couple of times and the light went off.

A while later (days...weeks...can't really remember), brake dash light flickered a few times. Sometime at the start of the winter, the light came on permanently. Seems like the cold weather somehow affects it. It's been on pretty much permanently most of the winter. It did turn off briefly after it warmed up recently.

Went to Auto Zone a few weeks back and the only code it threw was C1249, which was something along the line of 'open stop light switch circuit.'

All of the brake lights work, brake fluid level is fine, brakes work like normal (absolutely no difference before or after light in stopping performance). ABS works as it should (tested it several times in snowy conditions).

    Any thoughts?

It's very common on the first gens...slam your e brake a couple times, it goes out ...or buy the plastic part that broke off.

Thanks for the quick reply. Apparently I've missed those threads (I did a search for the code, I promise!). Any idea what plastic part I'd need to buy. If it's not crazy expensive, it'd be worth it to get rid of the dash light.

Not sure of the part..I am sure you have to go to the dealership to get it....and it's prob cheap. I haven't fixed mine yet if that helps...that will be probably the biggest problem you have with the truck:)

My 02 did this a few times. Seemed like the ebrake handle had just not retracted all the way when my light came on. Also seemed to never happen when I tightened up the ebrake cable.

If you want to try that it's easy, if I remember right were the adjustment is made is near the fuel filter under the cab on the drivers side. Don't want to go too tight, but you don't want a lot of slack, as this is what seemed to cause my light to blink on occasionally.
