Searched on TW and Google+TW and didn't see anything.

So I think my passenger side caliper is squeaking when I let off the brake pedal.

    Where should I apply grease?

I'll have someone press and release the pedal while I'm down there to make sure it's the caliper. If it's nearer to the firewall what might it be and what should I do?

If I was to make an educated guess, it sounds like the anti rattle clips holding the brakes from said squeaking caliper have somehow come loose from their seating area, or the shims for the pads themselves have come loose from the pads. You will have the pull the wheel and see which it is. The moment you pull it off, it should be fairly apparent.

If the noise is occurring when you brake, your pads could be wearing low and riding on the sensor as well. Pull the wheel off and examine.

Mine makes a 'noise' similar to what you describe. When the pedal is released. Squeak is as good a description as any. I only hear it when I am stopped or almost stopped. Not sure if it happens when I'm zipping down the highway.

One difference, is, I could swear its coming from the rear, not the front. I guess it hasn't bothered me enough yet to make a concerted effort to locate the source.

If the sound goes away when the brake pedal is applied, check for cracked pads. I've had this happen twice now (two different cars).

    Thanks for the replies.

It's definitely not low pad indicator noise.

I'm about ready for new rotors and pads (and lord willing new front brake lines if I can get the fawkin retainer clips off). So a full diagnosis will be made.

Check the contact points on your rear drums. There should be three points on each shoe. Apply caliper grease to those points. I used a breaker bar to separate the shoe. Mine made noise when I released the brake pedal.

Mine do this as well (tundra brakes). I have never noticed anything wrong when i have the wheel off and have just accepted it as another quirk of the truck.

My truck has been making a squeaking noise when releasing the brakes as well. To me it sounds like it is coming from the pedal mechanism outside of the cab somewhere. Maybe on the firewall?

Waaaaay back in the day, I had a VW Jetta that did this, it ended up being the brake pad had come loose from the brake plate and the movement between the two caused the noise. Talk about an oh shit moment.

Just add to this as i chased this problem this weekend. I have Tundra brakes on my Taco. I found the anti-rattle spring broken with those pads worn alot more than the opposite side. I was also getting a brake warning light in the cab due to low fluid because of the pad wear. Replace pads and spring and all is well now.
