Replacing brake pads on front passenger side. One side of the pistons are stuck and will not go in. I am unable to fit the pad in. Is the caliper broke? Should I replace it or is there a way to get it unstuck?

It’s done….while you might unstick it, there is corrosion in the bore that’s grabbing onto the piston.

beware of reman calipers…they’re mostly garbage…you won’t get much life out of ‘em….the cleaning process usually destroys the pistons, and they start rusting in short order. Don’t buy powder coated calipers either…all the surfaces that need to be protected are masked off and have no coating:

get new plated calipers…if you can’t find any local, we have them available

Why? We can sell you rebuild kits, but if yours look like the OPs and you need to buy 8 new pistons, you’re left with rusty hunks that you have to clean/blast/refinish the casting on…and by that point, if you pay yourself $10/hr…a new set puts you money ahead.

We rebuild a lot of calipers, but only for higher end and vintage European where originality is important. New is better everywhere else.

Cant you rebuild these? Seems I was reading something about that on here just a few weeks ago. Supposedly Toyota makes a kit

Edit: maybe I was reading about the drums.. not sure

So I broke what I think is the brake line as I was taking the caliper off. What do I do now?

    I prefer to use https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com

Thats just one example of a parts site. Put in your year, make, model, sub-model etc and it will tell you what fits. You can search terms like brake line, or browse different categories until you find what you need.

How do I know I if I need no 7 or no 8? Both seem the same.

The way the top right corner looks rounded off, and the top left is still square, I'll bet ya didn't use a line wrench.

Line wrench won't help with all that rust, that's pretty bad. The nut actually looks fine, the line only snapped because the fitting wouldn't spin around it when loosened. It's unfortunate and frankly he didn't really have much choice

Normal "rules" of auto repair don't apply when metal isn't even metal anymore. I can't even begin to imagine being a tech in the rust belt
