    Hey guys,
Last night when changing one of the bearings, we also tried doing the brakes while in there.
We replaced the original 2005 rotor, but could not get those stinking pins that go through the calipers out!
Any tips on how to get these put with damaging the Caliper? We sprayed a bunch of pb blaster, but it didn't have time to do it's magic.
I'm going to pick up a new set of pins, and my powerstop pads came with new clips.
The pads were changed 5 years ago.

Anyone have a trick how to remove them?

You do have the retaining clips removed right?

    Drift punch and a hammer.

Use a good pin punch set, and a 3 pound hammer to tap them out. They will come out. And replace them.

Hammer and punch. Sometimes if you bolt the caliper back to the truck you can grip the center of the pin with a pair of vice grips and twist to try to get it to break loose.

I just did this a couple weeks ago. I had a tough time getting them to move at first. Once you can get them to move an 8th of an inch the rest goes faster. I used a large punch so I wasn't sliding off the end of the pin... and a hammer... As I got more frustrated I hit the pin harder.... like I said... it did not move for about 20 whacks then it budged a bit and all was good with the world.

Many years ago I ended up having to drill out the pins. Once there's a smaller hole through the center, the pin can collapse and break apart .

Every time I used a hammer and punch to try and drive those frozen pins out the end almost always mushroomed and then there was no way to get them out without cutting and drilling. Now I use an air hammer and a punch but I push the pins inward first. Once they move the slightest bit they will come out. I have had really good luck this way and have gotten every pin out.

Must be some of the pleasure of living in a frozen wasteland in the winter. I have never had to work on a frozen brake pad pin... Mine always slide right out with my fingers.

Maybe a bit more preventive maintenance is in order.

Mine are always a pain. $40 for a new caliper and done with the time is takes to drill them out.

I've used a pair of side cutters and gripped the head then used a hammer on the side cutters to avoid mushrooming the pins in the caliper.

I had to cut mine out from inbetween the calipers, remove the pads, and knock the leftover pin pieces in the calipers out from the inside. It was brutal.

We got one side out, but the driver side had to be cut out. As it turns out, one of the calipers is toast , so it's off to the store for the driver's side caliper. :(
Now I need to learn how to bleed brakes.

heat.. PB Blaster with hammer and punch. just don't mushroom over the end or you will have to cut them. Try PB Blaster much better than WD40.
