I have a 2004 Extra Cab 4x4 MT. I'm currently replacing the rear axle bearings and seals and the brakes on both sides. Since it is a northeastern truck, the backing plates were more rust than steel and so I am replacing those as well.

I ordered the backing plates from Conicelli Toyota and while they arrived quickly, they don't match the backing plates I took off the truck. Specifically, the parking brake bellcrank is in a different location.
Old backing plate, the bell crank is low and at an angle.

New backing plate, the bell crank is high and vertical.

This perplexed me for a while and I scoured the internet looking for the answer when I remembered the seller stating that the rear axle had been replaced. Now, I'm assuming that it was replaced with an axle from a different year. Does anyone know what year the axle is so I can get the correct backing plate and brake parts?

Somewhere on your currently installed backing plate should be a number stamped into it xxxxx-xxxxx find that and take it to the parts guy and order that specific part.

Just went out to the barn and looked it over and I don't see a PN stamped into the old backing plate. I even cleaned up what is left of it with a wire wheel and I don't see anything. The new one doesn't have a stamped number either though, just a sticker.

My 02t4r 03&04 Tacomas have the type like your old one. I think the early models have it up top, not sure and Im not much help on this -
But noticed looking recently @Kwikvette rear suspension pics, thought “he’s missing the bell cranks”

Looks like it is 03-04 4WD and Pre-Runner which have the low bell cranks like my originals. This is what I had ordered, which is what came up when I put in the VIN.

@CrustyTaco I think those are the parts I need.

Thank you all for your help.
