Squirrel nested in my engine bay and chewed through some brake wiring. Any suggestions? Been trying to find the right wiring diagram to figure out what wires these are and if there is a fairly easy DIY solution.

I’ve included nest picture for your enjoyment.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
@caribe makaira might be able to help with the wiring diagram.
I can commensurate - I've had chipmunk & mice problems with my 2 tractors. Mice got into my new Kubota subcompact, nested in the air duct to the manifold. When I tried to start it a lot of the nest got sucked into the cylinders, destroying the compression. $6.4K fix (new engine).
Hate all of those little rodents!

The wires are all color coded, peel the electrical tape away and you should be able to match up the wires.

EDIT Disconnect the battery before start the repair.

Are you are suggesting just splicing the wires? That was my first instinct too but wondered if I could/should replace the entire cable - not sure where the other end goes but this end sure is an easy connection.

Little rat bastards chewed my knock sensor harness. Just south of $1k to repair.
That looks like a flying squirrel nest. They used to get into my plow truck too.

    @rcw119,

Yes, unless you want to pay for a new wire harness.
I would splice them using a soldered joint and a good adhesive shrink wrap to make it waterproof.

I'm seeing "south of $1k" and "new wiring harness" (which looks like it is $2k). I guess that suggests splicing is the way to go. Ugh.

If you are anywhere near Arizona, I'd be glad to lend a helping hand :)

That's a squirrel cache! Did you find any good nuts in there?

I *think* the wire that is damaged is the brake hydraulic booster pump power wire. Splicing is certainly an option, but that wire is powering the sole source of boosted brake power and stopping the truck without hydraulic assist is not easy. If I had an IPS I would look up the harness PN and find out what they cost through online dealers.

I don't think there are many maple trees in or around AZ. Are there squirrels in the SW?

If that shorted anything out and ruined the entire brake unit, splicing it all back together is gonna be even harder to make an insurance claim if there's even more wrong...

HA! I was just about to post that snip from the wiring manual... sans PN, though.

Believe it or not, we do have a few maple trees floating around and plenty of squirrels in the high country.

To close the loop on this for future searchers (and squirrel vacators)...Between work and personal emergencies this week I just went ahead and took it to the stealership to have them give me a quote. They quoted 2.5 hours of work...$412. So given my personal situation I just had them do it. They did try to upsell me with a blower motor replacement, cabin filter replacement, and AC recharge. Just on principle I nearly bailed because of that silliness but (sort of) kindly told them no thanks.

I appreciate all of the great responses in this community. Thank you.
