Just saw this head unit pop up on crutchfield. I've been looking for wireless android auto capabilities and this seems to do it for $400. Looks like a new product so not much info on it out there. Thoughts? Any 'catches' I'm missing on this head unit?

If you’re ready to buy a new one every 5 months and prepared for PAINFULLY SLOW performance, then go for it

In my 3 years of installing and 5 years of selling before installing, literally (not figuratively) every single boss radio we sold got returned or uninstalled and exchanged for a good brand

thanks for the info guys, will definitely steer clear of Boss. I guess while this thread is still kind of active I will ask the follow up question...

I'm looking for a simple wireless android auto solution. I really like the Joying Android 10 solution but from my research those aren't wireless Android Auto compatible yet. Anyone have suggestions for a reliable and simple head unit solution with wireless android auto?

for Headunits i think you are pretty safe if you stick to the Majors, Sony, Alpine, Kenwood, etc.. i personably questions the reliability around these Android devices

Good thread, although I'm not looking for a radio for my Taco. A friend just got a new to him 2006 BMW 3 series and is looking to upgrade the radio. He wants a back up camera as well, so a single DIN is not an option. I was looking on Crutchfield and noticed a bunch of Boss radios that fit in the single DIN housing, but have 7" or larger screens. The concept looks good, but from the comments here, it seems like quality is not good.

Still looking for the same type of thing, but it looks like JVC might be the only other option.

There are some other radios that will fit, but the "Needs permanent modifications to the heater and AC controls" is very concerning. I don't want to hack up his dash and then find out that he doesn't like it.

I know my questions aren't about a Taco, but they are not BMW specific, I'm looking for thoughts on the single DIN with a big screen concept.

If you let him put a boss radio in his BMW, you’re a bad friend

Modifying the ac controls is pretty easy though. Several videos you can find if you want an idea of the work involved

    Thanks.

He's my friend's son in law, but I know him pretty well. He's very picky on stuff so the Boss will be out. Since he's picky, modifying the AC controls could be a PITA if he decides he doesn't like the result. Right now I'm looking at some Jensen units. I've been out of the stereo install business (other than my own) for a long time. I seem to remember that Jensen is pretty good, as are Pioneer and Sony. Alpine is top of the line, but I don't know if they have anything that he'll like.

All of which is why I'm doing research before I even talk to him about what he wants. Most of my installs over the past several years have been on Toyotas and other Japanese cars. I did a Mercedes many years ago and it was a PITA, which I expect from the BMW for that matter.
