That boot won't fit. The ID of the inner opening on the boot is too small.
Measure the OD of the CV axle where the boot mounts and start poking around online for something that matches. I'm going to be looking for a solution soon for the same thing. If you'll measure the OD where the boot mounts I'll start looking for a suitable boot.

I found a supposed part number for the outer boot specific to this axle (BA 103-2817) but can't actually find it, nothing comes up.

Have you opened up the cv axle to take it apart?

    :burp:

Ideal situation; replace the cv axle under warranty.

Lower your lift as I'm betting you're at over 2" which is not ideal at all for an IFS rig.

I don't have another vehicle so I need a boot on hand before taking the axle apart. The articulation didn't tear it, I clipped it with a cut off wheel while cutting a bolt lmao

    Buy spare cv axle.

    Pull bad one and replace.

Get other one replaced under warranty.

Just use OEM Toyota boot kits, its like $30 and comes with the boot, grease and hardware needed.

Also what do you mean "extended CVs"? Your CV is either stock length, or for a long travel kit. Cant throw a longer CV axle in, just because.

    1st Gen Tacoma

"Extended" cv axles by one main distributor (but sold as 2-3 different brands depending on the big box store you buy from)

I ran them some years back when they first came out

    https://youtu.be/oKcnKuKpPOg?si=mjx8AFj_8OuK9lkW

They're replacements for stock length cv axles, but don't bind as quickly as aftermarket variants do

They actually allow more articulation than OEM even and OEM are supposed to be the best for 1st Gen trucks

So theyre a higher angle CV joint? How can it be extended/longer, that works on downtravel/droop but under compression the longer CV would bind/compress against the diff, no?

I'd bet shocks and bumpstops would come into play much sooner

I ran Durobumps on my 4Runner with these cv axles and never felt I lost any uptravel at all

Just a quick example as I'd stuff the front wheels often

I don't know a ton about them but bought them after seeing a demonstration like this. I was tired of the binding, tearing boots etc.

On a separate note... just spoke with oreilly and they have lifetime warranty

Why do you think I mentioned several times to get them replaced under warranty?

I would go that route rather than trying to get in there and disassemble the assembly as you can see by my above video that it isn't the same manner as your factory cv axle.

absolutely replace under warranty over that labor. CVs arent fun.

I run RCV shafts with OEM joints on 3" of lift with 35s and extended bump stops, no binding or issues at droop or compression. I 100% believe binding is an alignment and geometry issue with the lift and is why not all lifts/control arms are alike. I have orielly CVs for spares on the trail to get me home but use a Toyota Joint, Boot and RCV shaft as the daily/regular.

That's a good point, I hadn't considered the difference in disassembly on these. Probably best to let the warranty do its thing on these.

Earlier I spoke with the shop that ordered and installed them for me and they said they wouldn't warranty it. I just got off the phone with oreilly and they said they'd honor the invoice from the shop's order, which I didn't really expect.

So these have a "internal slider" that allows the CV to compress to stock width but extend drooped 1.5"? Sounds like alot of moving parts and more failure prone...

Which is why I'm psyched to hear about this lifetime warranty. That being said I do carry a NAPA backup on the trail

There are many times I had to give it the beans to get over some steep stuff; they never failed me

    Even when stuffed with snow

    20220102_121259.jpg

I can only speak from my experience of course; I was putting well over 3-4,000 miles per month on my rig, not to mention any miles wheeling, so I'd say they would do well for just about everyone in a mid travel setup

I'll run these same CV axles if I got a Tacoma again, otherwise it's a solid axle shitbox for me that I'll be looking at getting

    Makes sense

I thought you bought them and replaced them yourself, it's a really simple DIY I suggest doing yourself

You should ask if they could move the warranty to your phone number, otherwise you'll always need that invoice to get it replaced under warranty

For me, I had purchased mine through O'Reilly's myself and would just provide my phone number to look up warranty for any parts previously purchased

Whats the clearance at the CV to the coilover? My CV shaft is fairly close, the wrong boot clip and it can rub, those look substantially wider at the shaft, no impacting to the coilover stem?
