    Hey everyone,

I got myself a safe for my pistol that I want to bolt behind my seat in my regular cab. It’s the V-Line Compact Pistol Safe, if you’re curious. I want to just drill through the floor and install some rivet nuts so I can easily remove the safe if I want to. But I feel like I should be more thorough and remove the seat and fold over that part of the carpet to see exactly what I’m drilling into. On the underside I believe the fuel tank is there and possibly other things that I’d want to avoid poking. I would use a drill bushing so I only go as deep as needed. What are your thoughts? Is removing the seat and carpet an easy enough job or more of a hassle when drilling through the carpet and insulation is just fine?

Must be a good gun safe. I don't see a video with the LockPickingLawyer opening it in 10 seconds with objects he found nearby.

I'm just going to go ahead and say this:

Gun safes defeat the purpose of carrying a gun.

FWIW to all that’ll chime in about not using a safe: In CT, you must place the firearm in a vehicle safe if you can’t have it on you when you’re out.

I could try that but I feel it would not be easy to get it lined up where I want it inside the truck. And I believe the frame and fuel tank is there so might make it hard. I will try this tomorrow though, thanks for the suggestion!

I haven’t because I don’t have a center console. I have a bench seat. Otherwise, yeah that would be my go to spot. I’ve seen those advertised and seem nice.

As others have said, there are places where it’s forbidden and then it has to be locked away. Even if CT allowed them to be in a locked glove box, which they don’t, mine doesn’t lock. Agreed?

To steer this away from laws and opinions on why a safe shouldn’t be used, anyone have any advice on removing the seat and carpet? Anyone drill through the floor from the top down?

What I’ve done in the past In other vehicles is to use the seat bolts as a guide. I’ve then used a 16d nail to poke a small hole. Use a soldering iron to burn a hole in the carpet so that the drill bit doesn’t unravel the pile.

Ah I like the soldering iron tip. I would have used a razor to make a slice. I like your way better.

I had a safe under my driver’s seat. There really wasn’t much I could hit when drilling. Only reason I don’t have it is because I added a lot of sound deadening material and couldn’t fit it as easily. May still try to remount it because it was nice to have.
Anyway, I’ll I’m saying is...it should mount pretty easily. But as they say; measure twice, cut once.

I have essentially the same one, different brand. Very good tool to have, I use it very often. When I originally said rivet nut this is what I was talking about. I would drill holes in the safe and use ultra low profile socket head screws I got from McMaster Carr so they don’t scratch the finish on the gun.
