So I ordered some body side molding from Zigs for my 2015 DC. The included instructions said to install the moldings on the lower side of the door. The next day, I received an email from Zigs saying that I got the wrong instructions and these new instructions say to install the molding towards the middle of the door.

Which area should I install the moldings?

Attached are the instructions for both.

Better looking in the lower part than in the middle of the door IMO...

That being said, the "revised" instructions (middle of the door) is said to be effective "10-21-2015". I'd contact them to check if they make some modifications preventing intalling the moulding to the lower part of the door and if so, why did they made that change.

I shot them an email yesterday:

Good afternoon. I just received the package yesterday. Should the side molding be all the way up there around the mid door area? I thought it would have been best towards the lower part of the door where it sticks out the most, where the instructions included with the package said.

I haven't installed it yet ... I was just looking at the instructions last night.

    Thanks.

    ****
and this is what they said:

The instructions should tell you how far to measure up so they will fit correctly.
If you want to put in a different area that is up to you

It should look just like the picture above. Yes, that part sticks out the furthest, and any swinging doors will be caught by them. I can take a pic of mine if you'd like, but it is exactly the same as above.

I was planning on going to a random parking lot to see where the door might hit after seeing the email with the revised instructions. I was also thinking about buying some door lip guards for my doors so that I don't ding up other peoples doors.

im confused. are you worried about peoples doors hitting your truck, or vice verse? Because you have control over opening your door. you should be worried about people hitting YOU.

I got hit in a parking lot in the same spot as the lower moulding. It cracked my paint, and left a dent. :censored:
I think the trim above the emblem looks horrible.
I only hit a car next to me ONCE, I was parking a friends car, the wind caught the door, I lost grip and wham... I didn't notify the car owner, didn't need to, I parked next to my own car. :censored::censored::censored:

I have mine on the lower area like those who have posted pictures. I can't believe they even think installing mid-door even looks appropriate.

I have a rule not to park next to anyone with door edge protectors. They're likely not going to respect my vehicle enough to not put their door into mine. They may prevent a scratch but it still can dent.

I had the unfortunate experience yesterday of watching a funeral director park a car right next to my brand new truck within 12 ". Luckily the woman was considerat opening her door. Hit my door and bounced off ( no damage). The thing is I got there early found a spot that I was thinking wouldn't be near anyone, you just can't win. Luckily no da,age. The whole time I was there I was thinking I wish I had those like I had on my 05 Sierra

The body side molding should be properly installed on the lower side of the door, just below the crease line as in the above photos, and that location will provide the greatest protection from the doors of adjacent cars hitting the vehicle. I contacted the manufacturer to find out when moldings would be available for the 2016 model and was told the previous molding had been re-engineered to fit both the 2016 and the earlier Gen 2 models (2005-2015) as the previous molding will not fit the 2016 in the lower location due to the reverse curvature on the front door of the Gen 3. As it turns out, the re-engineering simply involves relocating the molding higher up on the door so it will then fit both the Gen 2 and Gen3. And I think that explains the new directions for installation. Hopefully, some manufacturer will get their act together and make one that will properly fit the Gen 3 in the lower location in the near future.

Are you saying you prefer to open your door all the way regardless of whether you'll hit someone else's car?
