I have some minor rear end (insert joke here) damage that needs to be repaired. Any reconnections for a body shop that works with insurance is appreciated. +1 for shops that a great with paint. Thanks!

Subscribed. I'm looking myself for someone that can get me a painted hood for a reasonable price.

I asked my dealer and they said "anyone but Caliber." He was right. By coincidence I had an appraisal appointment with them - $2500 to Bondo and paint the hood. I said no, I want to replace the hood, not bondo it. "Oh, hmm, uh, that will probably be more."

Winstead body shop has good online reviews, but I don’t know of anyone who has worked with them directly. Who will be the sacrificial lamb?!

My strategy is that if it's drivable, sacrifice a day and book at least three appointments for appraisal. Don't just look for lowest cost (especially if it's an insurance claim), but look for a customer agent that knows what the heck they are talking about and is willing to explain exactly what the plan of attack is.

On the other hand, if you get a quote full of hemming and hawing and/or bullshit explanations of "well it's 5 hours of labor to pull this trim piece here..." then thank them for their time and burn rubber the hell away from them.

It's been my experience that if the customer desk knows their stuff and makes a big show of treating you like an intelligent adult, then it's usually a good sign that they won't let it leave the paint booth until it's right.

My last one was at a service king in Arlington, chosen by the fiancee, but surprisingly they did right by us.

I was happy with work performed by LRM Customs, looks like they just moved to Pantego. They do aftermarket stuff in addition to collision repair.

The Caliber location here repaired my 04 back in 2021 after some damage to the bed. Honestly didn't do that great of a job and my bed isn't structurally sound at the corner involved in the collision. Bad enough it interferes with shutting the tailgate. Only benefit using them was USAA approval. I ended up not even reporting the repair as unsatisfactory because life got in the way. I'll install bed stiffeners in the future.

Learned a lot from a friend that had his Toyota 86 literally run over by a 3500 Cummins with a massive lift. It wasn't totaled out and he had it repaired at Toyota of Boerne. They did a poor job on the paint along with fitment of the front bumper cover. He was a lot more aggressive than myself and they made things right. But a 6 month old sports car is different from my ~20 year old truck no matter who's working on it I'm sure.
