It's something that gets repeated plenty of times in body mount threads, along with all the other negatives that I wouldn't chalk up to being a bad image from people "using hockey pucks" to do it. No different than the crap spacers get, which again is enough for me to not put them on my truck. Things have their pros/cons.

Correct and the gap guards take care of that and actually protect your engine compartment and rear frame from debris and I bet if someone just looked at the pics above without being told, they would not know it has a body lift.

And like you just pointed out, center of gravity with the drivetrain and frame lower...

If you want to run 33's and don't want to deal with vibration, torn boots, rear carrier bearings... go 2-2.5" suspension and 2" body lift a don't cut your truck to fit the new shoes!

True... and those that would cause that kind of damage are not the average... and those that hammer vehicles across rocks at 20 MPH and then scratch their head why they just received so much undercarriage damage and then come on a forum and chime in when most are weekend warriors out with their daily driver and have to get to work on Monday... going hardcore, you have to expect damage and if you get home without damage on a hard day wheeling over rocks etc... it was a good day and the truck is left home when they jump in their daily driver to get to work!

1" BL, meant I didn't have to cut as much of my fenders to clear the tires

This thread does bring back some memories- Anyone remember truck runs in So-Cal? My 1980 was running 36" Dick Cepeks- The previous owner had taken best in show with it at a couple of these runs. So I get body lifts are a little of "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". By the time I had owned the truck, I put that truck with etched glass, chrome, fully painted undercarriage, and 36" tires almost completely submerged into the San Luis Rey river, climbed hills that scared the crap out of me (had a roll cage in it)- never got stuck on any of my outings- did break some shock mounts and rear differential during my time of owner ship but never had a problem with the body lift.

I've been running a 1" BL for 3 or 4 years now, no issues. Upgrade to grade 8 bolts and the pucks are the same size as the factory body mounts so there is no risk of them punching through the cab. I was able to clock my transfer case so that it doesn't hang below the frame rails and avoided cutting and completely destroying the transmission tunnel

Nice truck! What size tire are you running and does it have a leveling kit?

I used the one from 4crawler. I worked with Roger to get the correct hardware and puck sizes for the 2nd gen trucks. My writeup on the install is on his webpage.

    Something to think about....

Yes....back in the day, I used to help a lot of 1st gen owners install body lifts.

Yes...they did deform the bed and/or puncture thru. It was so bad that we started installing plate steal between the pucks & the bed (1/8" thick, 3x3").

A guy I used to work with had a Wrangler with 3" body lift. He had a panic stop situation where he had to slam on his brakes..... Take a wild guess what happened? The force of the stop caused all the body lift bolts to break and the entire jeep cap slid off the mounts. He had an aftermarket kit.

    Just sayin....

my 85 toyota had a 3" body lift and i ran 35/12.50/15s and it rubbed like hell but the body lift had been on the truck for 30 years when i got it and it held up just fine. i also ran a 3" body lift on my 98 which also had a home made 3" suspension lift and i ran it on 35/12.50/15s for 8 years and beat the snot out of it and it still got me to work every day. i now have a 2015 tacoma and im currently running a 6" suspension drop bracket lift. so far all three have got me where i need to go and i have had zero issues (so far). long story short whether it be a body lift or a suspension lift, it doesnt matter. its what you want. sometimes you just gotta jump in with no floaties on and deal with it haha

I wonder what aftermarket kit that was? I don't care how hard the brakes were slammed, I used to jump my 83 with a 3" body lift with more force on bottom outs than the hardest braking possible and never had an issue. Actually sounds hard to believe the correct grade hardware was used.

I've run a 3 inch body lift on my '89 pickup for years and never had any issues. It will probably be coming off once my SAS is finish though.

Totally with you here bro. Thought maybe i was just stupid untill I saw your rig. I installed a 4 inch "all spring" suspension in my 84 extra cab, then added a 2 inch body and rolled on 12.50x33's. absolutely loved that rig and a 4 banger too boot. Still in my yard and 400 k on the odo. Runs fine. I took that rig everywhere from Baja to Alaska and it went places my 2005 would fear to tread.
The only thing Im wondering about is your shifter. Is it an auto and how does it look in the cab now?
Even the hockey pucks were pretty tough. The trickyest part was drilling and extending the steering linkage.
    Your truck looks awesome.

@The Field Archer, what did you do to compensate on the front bumper and get it flush? That bracket is a pain since the thee mounting bolts are in an L shape if I remember correctly.
