I know like the basics of the two lifts, but I was curious as to the pros and cons of both. I also would like to know what is involved with a body lift.

    Body lift
    Pros: cheap
Cons: a ton of spacers, stretched wires and steering and everything, very ugly. Lack of ground clearance. You will see through your truck between the frame and body.

    Suspension lift
Pros: proper way to lift a truck. More ground clearance. Depending on type, more travel or better ride. Looks cooler. More respect from TWers haha
Cons: More expensive. Also depending on type, lack of down travel or possible worse ride. Bad cv angles.

a body lift is kind of a joke around here in the world of lifts. a body lift in my opinion should only be used AFTER a suspension lift in order to clear oversized tires. but to each his own.

Thanks. Ya I have seen body lifts and think they look shitty, but I was wondering as to why someone would ever get a body lift done.

    "Lift on a budget"

I've done a 1" body lift on my jeep. That's the max I'd ever do. Why?
We put taller shock towers in which gave us more up-travel. The extra uptravel was awesome but tires were rubbing in the fenders slightly. The 1" body lift was enough clearance to prevent the rubbing.

I will tell you this....a friend/coworker owned a Jeep with a 3" body lift. He had told me about a time when he had to do an emergency panic stop on the highway to avoid an accident. His entire jeep body shifted off the pucks and slid forward. The body lift bolts /pucks broke under the pressure.

Thanks I appreciate the replies, are there any complications with a 6 in suspension lift? Like needing to replace the steering column or anything? Like I know the UCA's i should change but anything else?

    A little a this, a little a that...

You may run into problems with driveshafts and need to have a double cardon special made.

My previous tacoma, an 03 x cab, had a 6 inch DB lift and a few inches of body lift. That thing was up in the sky. I could sit under it indian style (which was AWESOME). Too bad it rode like crap :) The body lift was just to prevent tire rubbing.

Actually, with a 6" Drop bracket you will not have to replace the UCAs as it drops down the crossmember and retains stock angles on everything. I advise you not to drop bracket though. It makes you more top heavy, gives you less ground clearance than a 3", and (imo) looks gross too ;) . Additionally you get more extreme driveshaft angles which cause more strain on your U-Bolts
