I'm being told by my local chain body shop that the frame for my 2014 SR5 4WD Access Cab truck is unobtainable, not in stock anywhere in the universe on any timeline, no longer made, etc, and the truck is being totaled as unrepairable. (Repair costs supposedly wouldn't total it--just the parts availability.)

I don't really view this shop as super-competent because they don't usually do big rebuild work and don't really even have space for it. Their initial estimate also didn't note the frame damage at all, even though it was obvious to me.

I'd be grateful for any shop recs in the Pacific Northwest within about 250 miles of Seattle. If you had a frame replaced under the recall, where was that done? The truck is drivable--rear-end accident was in May and we've been driving it since, tracks fine, doesn't pull.

I am going to call my nearest Toyota Certified body shop in Vancouver WA today to see if they have any insight on the part availability issue. Any other ideas about how to track this down are also welcome. I just really don't want to write this truck off if I don't have to.

A little update based on some calls to parts warehouses this morning: what they have said is that the frame rails are never stocked, but are always made to order, and that typically takes 2 months. I asked whether they had any indication that Toyota was no longer making the part, and they said they hadn't received any notice that the part wasn't being made. What the shop here told me is that Toyota was no longer making the part, not that the part would have a delay.

Annnd, I called Toyota and of course they still make the part. My insurer is going to have another estimator look at the vehicle and assess repair costs based on that fact.

I kind of feel like I'm in one of those Greek myths where someone goes to Hades to drag someone back out.

And I still need good body shop recs.

Toyota has been replacing tens of thousands of 2nd gen frames because of rot issues. You shouldn't have any problems getting a frame from Toyota as they continue to manufacture them for this reason.

No frame replacement reference for you, but the only shop I use around here is Metro Auto Rebuild across from Toyota of Seattle. They have always done spectacular work.

This link is for the dedicated NW sub section. Search around a bit, good chance a local reputable body shop suggestion has already been offered. If you can’t find anything related ask the mods to move this thread or start a new thread there.
