Blowing thru Exhaust Flange Gaskets

Anyone have any idea why I am going thru exhaust flange gaskets so quickly?

Put a Napa one in 5 months ago and already toast.

Not that $5 for the gasket or 15 min to replace is that big of an ordeal but this is gonna be my 3rd one like this.

 

What kinda gasket? What engine setup?

 

Look for a dead soft copper or aluminum header gasket ,those will last a very very long time

I use the same style Header gasket on my drag race car with awesome results

 

You may have a cat clogging up and when you get on it the cat can't keep up with the increase in flow, leading to an increase in pressure, so it's pooching the gasket instead. Or it might just be a crappy gasket.

 

Not on the header tho, it’s the backside one of the front cat...same one every time

 

The OEM ones are copper I believe, NEVER had one that leaked before

 

Pull the flange apart and look at the flange surface and look for any signs of warping . You should be able to see a carbon burn mark on the gasket where it failed

Look at the flange in the same location for burn marks , file it flat or use a gasket scraper to clean the flange . Also as mentioned previously you may have a clogged cat and the gasket is blowing out from excessive back pressure

 

Make sure your getting the correct gasket for that location!!

They are not all the same.

I had the same problem till I got the correct ones

Must be 50,000 miles

Not that something else can`t be wrong

 

Could very well be the cat, but, hell new cats or a $5 gasket!!

Not getting a code for the cat tho?

And, the gasket is in pieces, totally destroyed every time.

 

Get the proper gasket and hope to god it doesn't burn up.
