I’m going to visit some friends around Ontario/Rancho/upland area for the first two weeks of next month. One objective is to find a good place to go shoot. I’m thinking BLM land near(ish) there may be the best option. I did see on a blm map that there is a decent size of land just northeast of Cabazon. Anyone been there to go shooting pistols and rifles?

Anyone have and suggestions otherwise of places to shoot? Local laws to be aware of?

Im in AZ so my state laws are pretty relaxed however, I’m familiar with CA laws as far as rifle restrictions. I’m just not familiar with any laws regarding shooting on blm lands, how far into the land do I need to be and anything else I need to know.

    Any advice is appreciated!

What does BLM stand for in this case? (not a shooter myself)

Your title makes one think of the BLM prevalent in the news.........

There’s always Hodges Road around Barstow-ish area. Fairly popular spot

This spot is pretty awful now, heavily trafficked and garbage everywhere.
Also be extra cautious with all the “inexperienced shooters” out there who may not have gun safety knowledge.

As mentioned Hodge Road. 15 North, exit Hodge and turn left over the hwy. A lot of trash and new shooters at times, but stay far enough away and it's a chill spot. One time, a couple deputies my cousin (a deputy) knew showed up off duty and laid out some cool gear. I would go on a weekday. I went on a weekend and it was a shit show.

Contact the BLM office in that area to find out any restrictions. That would be your best bet.

I remember reading about a guy who got shot at Hodge Rd, by someone on the other side of the freeway I think.
Bee Canyon outside of Hemet is decent, when it is open. There are a number of small canyons to choose from, and you don’t have to worry about someone right next to you. You just have to double-check whether shooting is allowed when you want to go, and get there early to get a good spot.

I looked up the area and it seems like a decent area. However, the blm map shows that the blm lane is southeast of the freeway, meaning I would go north on the 15 and make a right on Hodge. Am I mistaken?

Free to shoot anywhere that's actual blm land not posted otherwise. The problem is it usually borders a state park or private land. Really easy to be in the wrong area.

Hodge road is a good example. Half the area is actually off limits but rarely gets enforced.

Upland/Ontario check out route 66 shooting park. Setup by an idpa/3 gun guy.

Went shooting off of hodge road today. It was a little busy but I found a decent place where there weren’t many people around.

    Thanks for the recommendation!

As someone that also enjoys shooting please clean up the area after you are done shooting. Drove through Berdoo canyon area last year where many people were shooting, what a dump. It is hard enough to shoot in Cali, leaving places trashed just gives more reasons to ban shooting. And yes I know a lot of the trash in this area is not from shooters, but a lot is.
    Thank you
