Planning to install two Natika cameras under my side mirrors and connecting them to the blinker wire so that they activate whenever the blinker is on, anyone try this yet? Connecting them to the Stinger Heigh10 Head unit, as well as a bed/rear cam. Watched the Tacomabeast video of the install and it seems pretty straight forward.

Also, how will you select camera viewing of the rest of the added cameras?

I don't think they are for viewing. They are for activating a beep if a car is in the blind spot.
    Or something like that.

It’s next to the blinker fluid at Napa Auto Parts.

to be on topic my parents just picked up a new Sorento Hybrid and it has the blind spot cameras the display in the instrument cluster when signal is activated. Pretty cool tech.

    Oh look, another mod....

I guess you're too good to look over your shoulder after you use your turn signal, huh? Stick to the basics of driving. Don't rely on technology to do it for you, because eventually it will fail.

Amateur day, not even Friday yet. Blinker wire at the mirror would be an intermittent output signal vs signal select wire at the steering which would be a steady one (negative kind).

It has a delay built in, so if you do hook it to the blinker wire that blinks, the camera stays solid. Just keep in mind the delay is on all of the cameras, so after you go from reverse to drive the back up camera will continue to be displayed for 2 seconds or so. It has both positive and ground triggering, and you can use both if you want to add some additional “anytime” switching.

So much this. Or even better get a nice set of spot mirrors. Fraction of the price and way more useful with a proper shape.

The whole mirror-less / blind spot camera thing just blows me away. Are we are too dumb as a society to use a shiny mirror?

My blacksmith feels the same way. He can't understand why the hell anyone would want some mechanical contraption requiring oil, fuel, ATF and regular maintenance when there are perfectly good horses to get you around. People are fucking lazy.

Definitely planning to make a write up! For reference, this is what I’m referring to:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P9RtCozt7nY

Sorry for any confusion, I see “blinker wire” wasn’t the best terminology  the Heigh10 head unit has 4 camera ports, one will be for stock reverse camera, two for blind spot cameras, and one I’ll use as a bed camera/digital mirror view. The Heigh10 has trigger wires for the cameras, so that when connected to the turn signal wire, it triggers the cameras according to the direction indicated. Wish I could have it displayed in the gauge cluster like many new vehicles but displaying on the head unit will have to do for now! Not sure how I’ll feel looking at the head unit to see the camera, or how much I’ll trust it, but I think it’s worth a try!

This is a pretty cool setup. If I didn’t already have the 4 camera inputs, I’d definitely consider this option. Seems like a great option for someone with a unit like the Pioneer 6600NEX with less video ports.

I'll take up your argument. I am in no way a luddite, but blind-spot cameras that report to the center dash are not okay in my book. This is adding an additional spot to lay eyes upon which is way out of the normal field of vision during a complicated maneuver (meaning lots of steps involved, not that its hard to do). You are rotating your head in opposite directions between camera and mirror/over-the-shoulder confirmation. I can only conclude that the driver is going to be very soon in the habit of dropping one visual check and relying solely on the other. If you drop the camera, why install the camera? So they will be dropping the mirror. And, sorry, there are certain things that the camera is flat out going to miss.

I know this from running cameras on my trailer - On occasion the weather/sunrise/sunset messes with the contrast and vehicles become invisible. I can see that light gray sedan in my mirror, but thanks to sun glare it literally looks like empty road in my camera monitor. Cameras also don't have the field of vision that mirrors do, so you will miss vehicles that are on approach. Most of these cameras are set with >120° field of view (fish-eyed), so unlike a mirror only objects that are up close are detectable. You won't see that bike that decided to zip across three lanes until he is already on your fender.

So unless you install monitors on your a-pillars, so that you can view the camera AND do visual confirmation within the same head motion... its a bad idea. :cookiemonster:
