Black tape on rear view mirror

I recently picked up my 2016 Tacoma and noticed a piece of black tape with wires in it stuck on the rear view mirror facing the windshield. This can be pulled off and doesn't connect to anything. Thinking it is some kind of tracking device used at the factory that wasn't removed. Any idea what it is? I can post pictures.

 

if you have an SR, the wires are probably for the auto dimming/compass mirrors on the other Tacoma models.

 

It is a TRD OR. I was thinking it was something related to this, but it doesn't attach to anything, just stuck on.

 

The OR, Sport and Limited models come standard with the upgraded rear view mirror. SR5 models get the mirror upgrade as part of a package. The Limited mirror also has Homelink.

 

SR5 has auto-dimming and compass

 

Does it look something like this? If so, ya, that's a tracker.

 

Where is the compass at on the SR5? This must of escaped my attention.

 

It's in the top right corner of the mirror. I do have the appearance package, not sure if that is a feature in the appearance package or standard on all SR5's.

 

As long as it doesn't have one of those "It is illegal to remove this sticker" notes on it like pillows do, rip it off!

It's used for tracking the progress of your vehicle from the factory to your dealer's door.

I have a brand new 2016 SR5 4X4 and it has everything but a mirror with compass and auto dimming
