I'm thinking about replacing my headlights with black housing units. I know that you get what you pay for but these Ebay headlights looked appealing. Any recommendations?

recommend if you can get OEM pro ones, do that. Or retro fit OEM ones.

People luck out on aftermarket lights and vary by individual. Some people have issues with fading after some time, moister issues etc. Some people don't have those issues after a few years.

Some peoples are garage kept which help longevity and some aren't and it shows quickly.

If you're just worried about looks, aftermarket housings are the way to go. If however you're worried about actually being able to see anything in front of you at night, OEM is the only way to go. Aftermarket housings have a well earned reputation for poor quality. That includes things such as resistance to oxidation and moisture intrusion as well as the amount of usable light they put on the ground in front of you. Let the buyer beware. You do get what you pay for with automotive lighting.

I was hoping to maintain the current light output and improve the appearance. This is an arena where you can’t have your cake and eat it too. I’m not willing to sacrifice performance for appearance.

I like the way you think! You might want to try the OEM versions with the darker color. I think @crashnburn80 notes them (as well as part numbers) in his post on the Ultimate Headlight Upgrade.
