I’m wanting to get a matte black hood wrap on my 2020 but can’t decide on exact shape/size. Curious what others have? Also, cost I would be looking at? Should I just let a pro do it all or order it and take it to them?

It’s fairly easy to DIY, get some 1080 3M and give it a whirl. I tried with Orcal first and it was a disaster, so better vinyl is helpful. You’ll want an extra person, a heat gun (or hairdryer probably works) and take your time. If you are doing a stamp rather than a full wrap it’s helpful to make a soapy water solution and spray the sticky side of the vinyl so you can scoot it into position before doing your squeegee work

the above was like $20-30 or so and have some leftover - so cheap enough to boot

    E457AFC0-B05F-48A0-A132-738CD078ED68.jpg

    edit: tools required:
    -Vinyl
    -heat gun
    -soapy water
    -felt tipped squeegee
    -xacto-knife

    cost: immaterial

OR: you can chicken out and let some bro with a neck tattoo charge you $300 to do it. THE CHOICE IS YOURS!

Mine was $45 on Etsy and an hour of my time with a bottle of soapy water. Came out ok, with only a few barely noticeable air bubbles. 2F020EB3-3CC9-4EC4-8E9A-175B8C0DA56D.jpg

The key to this is to use vinyl with air release tech. And the biggest thing that helped me was to use 3m knifeless tape. Put the tape down in the design you want, put the vinyl on, and pull up the knifeless tape. I was able to get it done how I wanted it without incident the first time i tried. There are a few youtube videos of this on YouTube. Good luck.

You can use a sewing needle to pop the air bubbles and then a credit card to squeegee it out and flatten it. Less noticeable than a bubble.

I would be very careful with doing that.

You can also use a heat gun and work the bubbles to the edge.

I'll chime in. It's no less sensitive to power washing than paint. If your power washer is stripping decals, then you shouldn't be using it to wash the car. But yes, the vinyl is very durable to regular abuse.

I learned that lesson the easy way fortunately when I tried to knock the bugsplatter off my license plate, and instantly saw the shine of freshly exposed galvanized.:anonymous:

Also done this and ended up repainting my plate frame, at least it's galvanized.

But you're right on the money, power washing is fine but if you're too close with too narrow a tip and or too much pressure it can strip them but at that point you're also being too hard on the paint.

I’ll second the knifeless tape comment. There is a couple of other threads on this topic that were helpful when I did it.

Bought on Etsy, came from Ukraine. Took almost a month to arrive, but well worth it!
