Can someone explain to me what is the difference between these Bilsteins? They are both for the 2nd gen. They are slightly different in appearance but they share the same model number, except for a submodel number. Weird! Or I am missing something here?

One comes with springs and top hats. The other one doesn’t? :notsure:

It is not that! The part that is mounted on the LCA of one is thinner and on the other it is the same thickness as the strut. That's the photos I found.

    Yeah.
Yeah, those pictures may just be generic representative pictures. For the Tacoma, what you would get would likely look like the top picture, but with a coil installed if that is what you ordered.

IIRC, the 4Runner uses a larger “thicker” bottom bushing at the LCA.
Ought be the other way around. The Tacoma might be bigger. I can’t remember for sure. But one is wider.

Maybe they use the same photo for every vehicle model, but the one they send you under the same model number could look different.

Yeah! I think you may be 100% right! That's very confusing for buyers! Thanks brother!

I ordered some for my truck and this is what I got. My son has a 3rd gen OR and his look like the one in your top picture.

That's weird! I thought maybe it would be a random photo and then they would send you the one that belongs to your vehicle.

I’ll look for the thread but someone on here posted about it. They reached out to Bilstein about something like this and they were told that they manufacture shocks for different car brands and that those shocks are OE specific, but they still but their label on them.

Suspensionlifts.com. I entered 2008 Tacoma and my specifics and got the perfect front and rear package. Generic photos probably. Loving the install, did it myself. A real project though, given the age of the rust belt originals.
