Wondering if someone can answer a question. I was thinking about leveling my 2016 trd or. I like the stance and look better. I've been looking at Bilstein 5100 and 6112. I like the 6112 bc they come with tuned coil overs. With the 5100 do you use the stock coil overs? Is worth replacing shocks in rear? Nothing too crazy off road, would like to maintain towing and hauling abilities, and good road manors.
    Thanks!

I have 3rd gen 5100s all around with stock springs. Front at 2nd notch (0.65"). Almost perfectly level with slight rake. Ride is much smoother than stock Sport ride. Not sure the difference in an off road model.

Either one would be a great choice. I have the 6112's because I had the budget for them and they suit my driving, absolutely love the ride on them. Whether you should go with a larger shock body and reservoirs depends on the type/speed of your offroading.

You can use stock coils with both sets of shocks I'm assuming? What's the advantage of replacing coils?

6112s come with new springs (coils) why you'd consider using OEM coils on Bilstein 6112s is not clear to me.

Is it not recommended to only purchase the shocks and save money by reusing your OEM coils?

I don't think the stock coils will fit the 6112 as it's a much thicker shock than the 5100, that's why they come with new coils.

The coils come with 6112s. It's a complete setup you can't even buy the 6112 shocks by themselves to my knowledge. And they won't fit

Glad I learned something today. If you go with the 6112s, try to make sure the provided coils suit your application. With the 5100s, you can choose from different coils to suit your application.

I assumed that you could go piece-wise; I assumed wrong. But to call it a complete setup is a little misleading IMO. Per Bilstein's site:
    • Reuses OEM top mount and rubber isolator
    • Kit includes (2) front 60mm shocks, (2) spring seats and (2) springs
OP, make sure your vendor assembles it for you (you'll likely have to pay for labor plus new mounts) or you'll have to get it assembled yourself.

If you have the money to burn go 6112. Otherwise the 5100s are great shocks for a really good price.

If you're installing yourself you can do it without a spring compressor using the lower control arm as the compressor, which is actually much safer and it very easy to do.

Woah now, I was under the impression the 5100s(and 4600s) were digressive monotube. Are you sure?

Thanks for the good info! Thoughts on 6112 up front and 5100 in the rear?

That would work well. The 5160s in the rear pair well with the 6112s if you want resis. I was about to pull the trigger on a full set of 5100s when I got comped the 6112/5160 combo. You won't be disappointed. I get a lot of compliments on the ride. Even my 69 year old dad with a bad back mentioned how smooth they are on a mild trail.

Did you level your truck? What ring on the front? Do the 6112 work that way like the 5100?
