Hey guys, I had someone install my Bilstein 5100 on my 2017 TRD OR yesterday. The back looks right, but the fronts do not.

The driver front sounds like washer jingle when you hit a bump, and the upper bushings (unsure of exact name) are not compressed as they appear in many others photos.

I attempted to tighten it up myself to see if I could get the bushings to compress a little, it tightens when I hold the top with a cresent wrench and tighten however I can take the wrench and still turn the bolt and assembly once I remove the cresent wrench.

Attached are photos, the installer plans on taking a look at it today however at this point I'm hearing he's saying everything is correct and something needs to be tightened.. Just looking to the 'what ifs' and what it could be from the photos.

Yes - that bushing should compress to roughly the size of that upper washer/retainer. Try vice grips on the top stem.

    Copy, as I figured.

What components could be making it that I cannot compress it at the moment?

I'm not quite sure what would cause the entire assembly to spin. Others may know more.

When I say assembly spin, I mean the actual 'piston' part of the shock. Sorry for the newb language, it's been a long week at work and still continuing.

Also, I attempted to find this - but does anyone have a diagram as to the order of the hardware?

Other than this, everything rides great.. What a difference (to me) the 5100's have made, I don't feel like I'm going to shatter my teeth hitting a speed bump.

Just hoping to get this situation figured out as soon as possible as this is my only vehicle for now and I have to rely on it to work and back.
Thanks for all of your fast replies, happy to be part of this forum.

Vice grips should prevent any spinning. Just make sure you get a good grip on the flat part.

That's what I did,it tightened up with the grip on the top. I got it as tight as I could but spun it without the grip on the top and it still spins.

The truck is at the shop now, the guy showed me a photo he took when he completed it and the bushings were in fact compressed as they should be

Unsure what caused them to come loose or whatever.

Installer didn’t install one of the hidden washers or rubber cushion. It’s common to forget.

I don't see the isolator bushing under the hat, or maybe they didn't use the cushion bushing underneath the hat too, the bilsteins 5100 front struts don't come with new upper stud bushings, they say to use the old OEM bushings

You should be able to fit a 6mm hex wrench on the very top of the shock bolt then tighten the bolt to squish the bushing to the same size as the washer.

    Thanks everyone for the replies..

Just got it back and here's what we have now.. He had to rethread because apparently I over tightened it or something.

    Does this look better?

If you start to hear a sqeak from the suspension in about 6k miles it will be from the top hat and the shock shaft rubbing . If not tightened it will ovalise the top hat hole and will need to be replaced .
