Ok so before I spring (lol) my question I have read around 3 hours of information on Bilstein and springs for my 3rd gen. And thanks to all the posts I have decided what way to go. However I have a question that is left unanswered. And yeah its probably a stupid question to those with a lot of experience with suspension mods but my 1st and 2nd gen stayed stock so I am a noob.

I know that the 5100's are designed to run with OEM springs but seems most elect to change the spring and the most popular are the OME springs. Having done my research the 887's are the correct spring.

So why are the coils so often changed? A lot of folks on here stayed stock while a lot went with a replacement. I also read a lot of issues with the replacement springs so it made me read more and more and even some more. So is this for off road performance reasons? Are the 887's stiffer? For the record this is my daily driver and I only want to do the 2" for the look. I am ordering the TRD Pro wheels since I love black wheels on white vehicles. The only off road I do is when I go fishing or hunting and its nothing my stock suspension cant handle.

Again, forum police please take it easy if this is already buried somewhere in the 10,000 posts but since nobody seems to actually agree I wanted to ask before I order my shocks so I can order springs too if they are the way to go. And yes I am ordering an AAL for the rear.

    Thanks all

Yea I’m in the same boat right now also. I’m curious what people have to say as I thought for sure about going ome for my 5100s but with everything I read, now not so sure. Looking at eibach coilovers now.

I also find this very interesting. Its the Bilstein kit and says not to adjust the shocks over stock height as the springs have the lift. So folks on here told me they used OME springs and adjusted the shocks to 2". This contradicts everything. I wonder if this is the solution over 5100's and 887's. I dont know but I wanted to hit "proceed with order" for 2 weeks and I keep 2nd guessing myself.

Here we go! Stock springs here,4th perch and a one and half inch tapered rear block, I had a front diff drop and a rear carrier drop also done as well as the ECGS clam shell bushing and a 1/4 spacer on the driver's side for the lean. Rides awesome, not having to worry about the coils sagging or voiding Bilsteins lifetime warranty. Lots of people like the new springs, I didnt see the need, and wait for the bull crap about them compressing your springs which is totally not true. I'm leaving it at that. If you have any questions send me a PM. Good luck.....

5100’s 2” front lift 1.5” AAL rear lift. Ride is great IMO. Eibach is a great kit as well.

I’m on Bilstein 5100s on the 5th notch with stock coils but I want more lift with the added gear weight. I want around 2.5” that’s what I’m looking to change it up. Sorry for thread jacking.

You have been super helpful. Couple more questions if you don't mind. When you say 1.5" in the rear did you add a leaf or a block? Also what tire size you running? You have done exactly what I want to do.

Opinions vary. I’m on 887s set on the lowest setting on 5100s 1/4 lean spacer and Dakars. Running this set up for @ 40k miles now and for what I use my truck for, it works for me. I also later installed [JBA] upper control arms which I recommend to help with alignment settings.

Upper Control arms are definitely needed to get a dialed in alignment

I'm thinking of going with the same setup but don't know anything about the diff drop. Can anyone enlighten me? I just want to level my truck, 1.5"-2" lift max. I don't do any "serious" off-roading only some fire roads here and there. TIA!!

Oh Boy, a curve ball.....So if new arms are needed for 2" I suppose it might be worth looking at the 2" kits with the arms and just do it all at once. I mean if you cant align it your gonna chew up tires and they are not cheap. Save a buck now and pay later if you dont?

Absolutely bro. Get everything at once. Learn from this guy LMAO!! Love my set up now. Live and learn right? UCAS will help with handling and allow caster and camber adjustments to dial it in.
