    Hi,
I'm new to the forum but not to Tacomas.
I received the fuel pump recall sent for late model Tacos and went in a week ago to get it replaced. Wow! What a difference with the bogging after shifting. Don't have to press the accelerator harder after shift change! It basically disappeared on my 2019 Sport. I was worried about gas mileage. My intown mpg went up by 1 mpg to 19.8 and the highway went down just a little to about 24 mpg. That was on a 4 hour trip. Just wanted to share.

It sounds like they may have flashed the TSB tune? Does your Work Order say anything about an ECM reprogram, mention TSB-0092-20, or anything like that? The recall work is solely a pump swap and a couple o rings.

Of course, a failing pump can have drivability issues.

I was wondering about this honestly, my truck needs it done and it felt a little sluggish a month after doing the TSB for shifting...it felt like one day after getting gas my truck just felt a little sluggish but otherwise drives fine. I get fuel 1.5 times a week and know my truck well. I swear it just felt sluggish one day. Maybe I’m not insane...

If under higher engine loads, hesitation or sluggishness is a symptom of a failing pump. It can't provide all of the demand needed.

It’s not horrible but I do feel like it just holds back like 15 percent under certain loads. I’ll get the recall done and see what happens, I just hate leaving my truck with the yahoo’s at the dealer.

It is a more involved fix than typical. That said, the reports have been pretty good and the recall work instructions note that it is supposed to be done by higher level techs only.

It may be a placebo effect but my truck felt (and sounded) different when I picked it up from the dealership last week (they refused to flash the TSB, BTW). Felt like it had more pop.

The Technicians disconnect the battery to do the install. The ECM has to relearn your driving habits. My truck drove better before the learning sequence was complete as compared to after the ECM had learned my driving habits.

A battery disconnect is only a partial reset. If it is disconnected for a while, the systems will fully drain down. This can typically be accelerated by touching both terminal together for about 10sec. The changes from a battery disconnect can be felt though.

A true Learned Value Reset for the both the Engine and Transmission ECUs can only be done in TechStream or with the vF Tuner software. It is complete and the Taco will drive wonky for a few miles, esp when accelerating the first time or two.

2 hours is a little while?

I personally don't believe all the stigma associated with the ecm logic reset. I have to reset machine processors to clear faults regularly. It never takes more than 5 minutes to do the reset on logic that isn't permanently written to the processor.

I am not stating a time. 1hr would assure it, as would the 10sec touch, as I noted.

What stigma? I Reset LVs often. If talking computing, I believe shutdowns are a path to success on Win machines.

My truck is scheduled for the TSB on the 13th. Service tec told me that the repair should take ~ 2 hours. Form my experience dealing with "machine processors" thats' more than sufficient time to reset the volatile logic.

Machine processors: Allen Bradley, Siemens, and ABB - Variable Speed Drives, Soft Starts and Power Logic Controllers.

That is what I said, twice.

That still does not clear the stored LVs that request TS or vF to reset. BTDT.

    Mine was scheduled for Wednesday.

I had the fuel tank low and was only going to fill up with 6 gallons to get me to the appointment and then when today hit all the gas stations are empty and everyone is hoarding fuel.

So here i am driving down the highway with please refuel shining in my face. When i finally found a station with gas i filled it up with 20.3 gallons and cancelled my appointment. It will have to wait until after this fuel crisis ends.

I'm talking about the logic that is "learned" by the ECM (LVs, TS, vF o_O). I understand that "engine control" will never be reset with a power cycle.

Haven’t had mine done yet but from TW reports I’m expecting at least a 10 HP and 4 mpg gain
