My excellent GY All Terrain Adventure Kevlar have nearly 60K and DT will no longer rotate them. Since GY no longer makes the ATA in 265/70R16 only the 245/75/16. OEM. I’ve been looking seriously at the BFG Trail Terrain AT. Relatively new, like a lower aggression KO2, but more roadworthy.
    Anybody tried these?
    Thanks
    Smokey

I put on a BFG Trail-Terrain T/A as the spare for my 2008 Lexus RX350 a week ago. (The original spare from summer 2007 was definitely past its best-if-used-by date.)

The Michelin MXV Energy S8 road tires on the RX have over 50% of the original tread depth after 35k-ish miles, and they're only seven years old, so they might make it into next year. But Trail-Terrains are a serious candidate to go on the road for that car -- that's why I started with the spare.

Here's the Trail-Terrain T/A (235/55-18) on the Lexus wheel next to the All-Terrain T/A KO2 (235/85-16) on my Gen 2 Tacoma. I think it's a good candidate for a Tacoma. The Trail-Terrain is more like the KO2 than one might expect. That the main tread blocks don't have an open channel to the periphery is one of the ways BFG made the tire quieter, per their product info.

I bought a set of 265/70/16 BFG Trail Terrains in May, local dealer had 'em in stock. I am happy with the tires, no complaints. Paid $824 but got a $75 rebate and sold my 12 yr old tires for $200 so my total outlay was about $550.

Thanks for the replies guys, really appreciate the pics and evaluations.

I’ve ordered 4 265/70R16s from my local DT. I got the Military discount, BFG internet incentive and will be out the door for around $725. Awesome

I have Hankook DynaPro AT2 tires.
I love them, and they come in a 265/70

I know that isn’t what you asked about it.
But it’s another option in the size you are looking for.

I’ve read good things about the HK Dp2 online as well. Considered many but settled on the BFG.
When the old girl makes it to 250K maybe I’ll try them, I’m certain she will!

Looks good, @Smokyray. Post up some tire pix closer to the wheels -- and remind us what size you settled on.

    Hey 4XD!
Here are some closeups. When my OEM Dunlop’s expired at 60K I installed Firestones that were only available at my store in 265/70R16. Immediately liked them better both handling and looks. When the Firestone’s ran out at 105K I installed GY All Terrain Adventure Kevlar same size which I just removed at 155K. They could have gone another 5-7K maybe but my wife drives it and rain handling was a concern.
So…The new BFGs are 265/70R16 and far surpass the previous 3 models in every category. Since my wife owns a 18’ Raptor, we’re a BFG family.
    Here’s a pic next to her 315/70R17 KO2’s next to mine. :)

Wonder how the Trail Terrains compare to the BFG Rugged Trail tires that come stock on the TRD Offroad?
That's what I'm still running on mine and they seem to hold up quite well and have decent traction.

I have a 2020 Tacoma TRD Off-road. Current tires are the stock OEM Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain Adventure with Kevlar. They have performed fine but are nearing end of life. This is my daily driver but we do like to drive on WI forest service roads a few times a year and if we go on vacation once a year to a place with some mild to moderate off road trails we will do a few. Such as CO, UT, TX. Nothing hardcore though. We do tow a small pop up at 1,600 pounds. I was thinking of the Falken Wildpeak A/TW3 but I have heard good things about the BFG Trail Terrain A/T. Maybe better ride on the road, quieter, and better MPG. I want the tire to be capable off-road but don’t want to over buy for my occasional off road use. Thoughts? Would the Trail Terrains be similar to my OEM GY’s? Thanks!

After a few miles (and I mean a few...not a lot) I arrived at colder weather here on the east coast...and wow did these tires take a crap. Any wet weather traction they had was so completely gone my wife ordered me to get rid of them or just get rid of the truck.

    They were still quiet....
    They still rode great....
They still did ok offroad and in sand....
But throw some water on the pavement and things got terrifying in a HUGE hurry.

I can't NOT recommend these tires enough.

That sounds like my experience the with OE BFG Ragged Tails on my 2nd Gen Tundra. And they had a really fragile sidewall to boot.
Wouldn't recommend that tire to anybody.

The water has to be able to go somewhere. Solid strip of rubber on the shoulders is no good. I am not an expert tho.

Thanks, that basically answered my question and concern that @pastoreater pointed out too. I had these on my shortlist, but wet and snowy conditions are important so they're off.

I have the BFG Trail Terrains. Have about 5k on them. Have not had them off road but like them on paved. Good noise level compared to my old OEM’s. Like the looks. Have not had trouble with them in rain or a recent fall snow. Just my opinion so take it how you may.

Others really are having issues with them...and they were freaking terrifying in my case.

There are so many other really great options so why even take a chance with a tire that certainly isn't cheap.
