I purchased Rugged Terrains several years ago for my 06 DCSB TRD Sport Prerunner because: 1. Aggressive look; 2. Quiet ride; 3. Came factory on the newer Tacomas; 4. Did great on the gravel roads and weekend beach trips of South Texas.

Looks like they are now discontinued by BFG. I'm considering the Nitto Terra Grapplers or Cooper Discoverer AT3 and (based on what I've read) staying away from the Long Trails / Rugged Trails. I really like the LTX M/S but looking for something that stands out. Suggestions?

Yeah TacomaWorld calls the Rugged Trails the "Rugged Fails".

I'm a Cooper ST Maxx guy. After researching they seemed to have the best sidewall construction. They haven't failed me yet! I've scraped my Method wheels so bad I actually have chunks of aluminum missing. Yet the sidewalls of the tires are still intact.

This photo was after 5 days in Moab.

Tires look worse today. More scrapes and scars. But they're still holding air and doing well!

Loved them over the winter too.

EDIT: BTW - I had Michelin LTX M/S 2's prior to my ST Maxx. Those were fantastic highway tires. But the sidewalls didn't hold up to any abuse.

@Kyitty - I wish I could use the line "after 5 days in Moab" lol. Awesome rim/tire combo and trail badging adds value - right?

@desertrunner24 - Thanks for the video. I haven't heard/read on the ST Maxx so I'll add that as homework.

LOL Hmmm. If I ever switch out my rims I'll have to put that on the Craiglist ad, "These rims have been autographed by Moab."

Rugged "Fails" and Rugged Terrains are two completely different tires.
