Currently running a set of 265/70/17 KO2s on a set of 4Runner TRD Pro wheels. They're "ok" but looking to change it up a bit. I want to move up to a 285/70/17 tire and I like the look and weight of the Ridge Grapplers. I know the Wildpeaks get a lot of love on here but what other options are out there that are comparable to the mentioned three? I really like the look of the RGs and they seem to have a good all-around rating. The KO2s are not that great in rain which we get a fair amount of in NC. I'm lifted about 2.25" inches but don't have any CMC or other cutting done yet. Not sure what will be needed if any with those wheels. Thanks!

Super Swampers are an alternative, but probably not comparable with the superior traction they provide to the others.

In that size, Nitto makes a "passenger" version (although the tire size doesn't include a "P") and, in the LT sizes, both a "C" and "E" rated version. The passenger version is only 48.74 lb (22.11 kg) Both LTs show as exactly the same weight (57.89 lb. or 26.26 kg) which seems counterintuitive.

Which are you considering? If you aren't driving over sharp rocks, the lighter one might be your best option.

I was thinking about the P version since I don't really rock crawl. Light off-roading and dirt roads and trails is the extent of what where I go.

I'll look into these. How do you like them following the BFGs?

Do not have any interaction with the BFG's but I second the Toyo Open Country. I have 265/75/16 and they are awesome.

not sure if they make them in your size, but i run Toyo R/T's on my Super Duty and they're great, not as noisy as you'd expect for the type of tread pattern, work well, etc.

im on my second set of wildpeaks on my tacoma

Love the look and how they handle. The road noise is a hair more than the bfg's on highway but being a cross between a/t and m/t that was to be expected... around town there is no difference. Both the bfg's and these are e rated 10 ply.
I have a 2" lift... even at 275/70/17 had to remove mud flaps and did some minor plastic trimming up front... clears cab mount by 1/2". I ending up trimming mud flaps/heat gun to bend under cab mount and shortened them.
edit: these aren't 3 peak snow rated... so far not bad on snow but be careful on ice.

Anybody have or has run the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss? They look like a solid option too.

Replaced the factory tires and wheels on the Tacoma this week. I’ve been running BFG All Terrains on at least one vehicle for almost thirty years.
I tried DuraTracs for a while and they wouldn’t stay balanced. Replaced those with KO2s

Some think they are outdated and don’t perform well in rain. I’ve never been let down by them.

My Gen 1 still has first-gen KOs.

67k mi and about 35% of tread depth remaining.

I’ve got Ridge Grapplers on my Tacoma, they work great. My parent’s vehicles can’t make it up our driveway when it’s covered in snow, and mine does it with Ridge Grapplers no problem.
