I've had a set of BFG Mud tires on my truck the past three years...always aired them to 32 PSI. My buddy and i were driving today in the truck and the TPMS came on. We stopped for air and he said I was wrong for running 32 PSI since the sidewall of the tires suggested 80 PSI when cold....what is everyones thought on this. I just aired them up to 60 to see if i could notice a difference....

That’s just the max pressure of the tire.
Your required tire pressure is based on the weight of the vehicle and load on the tire. Best bet is to follow the recommendation on the door jamb or do a chalk test.

I do 35 PSI. If i'm towing I put the rear to 40-44 PSI depending on the tongue weight.

It says 'At max load of 3195lbs per tire, 80 PSI'. If your Taco is sitting at 12,800lbs, then maybe yes.. :) I ran these on my full size ford at 50PSI, on a Taco, I wouldn't go over 40 unless loaded for expedition.. I run mine at 34-36 as I'm a little heavy..

As said above. Chalk test or just follow the door pressure. Your tires are an important part of your suspension system.

It's not a bicycle tire or trailer tire that you run at max pressure.

If they are LT tires, they should be inflated higher than the stock SL tires.

E rated tires are designed to be used on heavy duty trucks with curb weights 1000-1500 lbs more than the GVWR of a Tacoma. Guys who drive 3/4 and 1 ton trucks only run 50-60 PSI when unloaded. And that is with an empty 7000 lb truck. They only air up to 80 PSI when loaded and have 10,000 lbs or more on the tires. Driving a Tacoma @ 80 PSI is insane, even dangerous. The wheels on light duty trucks are only designed to stay together at 60-65 PSI. The wheels on heavy duty trucks are designed for those pressures, not Tacoma's.

I run 30-32 PSI with E rated tires on my Tacoma and that is more than enough even when loaded heavy. I run about 35 PSI on my F150 with E rated tires. No need for more with the weight of those trucks and the GVWR's.

While you’re at it you should ask your buddy how many miles his tires last before the center of his tread is gone.

And then ignore any future automotive recommendations he throws at you
