    Hi guys
When i boughtp my Tacoma a few months back the previous owner told me me that those tires were good for winter as well, and with the truck i have another set of rims for summer.
These BF Goodrich are on Toyota mags original rims.
He git them last October and use them until spring.
    So one season on those.
I have some threads about those Rugged Terrain ones ,and aparently they are not very good and mostly in the winter they are not good at all!!
Well winter is about to start here in Ontario Canada, and sure
would like to hear from those who had them or uses them in the winter season?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Charly

Garbage. Replace if you can. General Grabber AT2, works great in ice, snow, wet roads.

Actually I have some rugged terrains on mine and so far nothing negative to say about them. Rains a ton here and no problems on wet pavement, surprisingly does well in mud and sand (plenty of testing there). I have not tested them in the snow though so thats up in the air, if I still lived in colorado Id be able to tell you how they did in a couple weeks :p

Overall though I like mine, but Im looking into Cooper ST Maxxs since I like the looks and reviews.

I've had my Rugged Terrains (not Rugged Trail) for almost two years now and they have been great in snow. I haven't used them much on ice so I can't speak to their performance on that surface. We got ~60 inches of snow last year in the Philly area and these tires handled it like a champ. I'm sure the winter conditions you're facing in Ontario are much tougher than ours, but my Rugged Terrains have served me well down here. Good luck.

    Hi 4x4 Taco
So maybe they are not that bad then!
Some to,d me they were garbage,,,
We do have pretty rough winters here, but i don t travel much!
Though we do have awfull road condition, mostly because of our shitty town services,as we pay extreme taxes, but they dont take care much if the roads etc etc
But i am glad that someone thinks that they are not that bad!
    I will wait then and see,if they don t work,then i l buy some!!
    Thanks again

Ok ,now after really trying it,it is not too bad,but without the 4x4 on well,it s pretty scary.
With the 4x4 on i really love my Tacoma,i imagine with winter tirers on,it must be amazing.
I will wait a little and make a decision if i buy winter tirers.
    All the best

I bought a set of Rugged Terrains for my 3rd gen 4Runner last spring. The 4Runner is my daily driver so I wanted a decent all season tire with good tread life. I think they will work for that purpose however I finally got a chance to test them out in winter conditions with just so-so results. On glazed snow/ice they are not so great especially compared to the BFG All-Terrains on my 1st gen Tacoma. I have been rolling on multiple sets of BFG All-Terrains for the last 12 years on my two Tacomas and I will say the Rugged Terrains do not perform nearly as good. I considered manually siping a few particular knobs on the tires with a hand siper/groover tool but I think I will just learn to live with them and enjoy the mileage they hopefully provide. One positive I can say is that they don't hydroplane as bad as the All-Terrain.

OP, I ended up blowing out one of my Michelin LTX M/S's on the weekend. Just did the whole tire search thing as I was in a bit of a panic because I'm now running on a spare tire in snow/slush. I called up OK Tire in St George Ontario and got a decent price on Toyo Open Country A/T2's.

Crappy Tires are not worth the risk in the changing road conditions we get from cold and snowy to everything melting and getting slippery.

And yea, it's another grand and a bit in tires. But you only have 4 contact patches between you and the road. It's worth investing is good rubber.

You are mostly and probably very right.
Scarry tirer,or if you wonder if you will go all over the place ,or wont stop,is nt worth security!
We have very much unpredictable roads,,today gere we have February condition, cold, very windy, with about minus 10 with wind factor.
Roads are icy,and with some snow left here and there is town.
If i would have the cash,i would cahnge them this week, but i ll need to stick with them for a while.

I second the so-so comment on the Rugged Terrain in winter; I definitely wouldn't be driving on them if I had regular snow and ice. They do last a good while but that's about the only positive thing I can say about them. Soft sidewalls, grip in the rain is so-so, and they're noisier than the stock Rugged Trails. I'm replacing mine as soon as they get close to the wear bars.

I thought the same thing but never investigated whether or not the Rugged Terrains were offered on them.
